Re: Magnavox 47MF437B/37 slight hum when plugged in no picture squeaks when turned on
Is this multimeter a viable option?

Also, when trying to check the pins or whatnot for caps or diodes and such, does one usually need to unsolder them to get an accurate reading? Because it would be my second time soldering anything and the first time I didn't do so good haha. Re: Magnavox 47MF437B/37 slight hum ...ks when turned

Is there something I'm missing in my explanation that isn't allowing anyone to be able to respond? Or is it just because I'm new to this and I'm in the wrong forums?

Hello everyone,
This is my second thread on this website and I would like to just say that without anyone to help me last time I would've achieved nothing and would like to just thank the community for being as exemplary as it is.
Also I'd like to say that I'm very very novice at soldering and whatnot and the first experience I had soldering was my last fix. So please break it down for me in terms of a laymen. I also only have the tools located in this pack on amazon from my last fix: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M1AJCRY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1...
I only replaced the one that was bulging. Should I replace all the capacitors with the new ones i've received? This is the first experience I've had soldering anything so I'm slightly worried I might mess something up. Is it worth doing before I try looking at a replacement PSU?
Thanks again for the quick response I do really appreciate it. A tv would be much better than staring at my laptop trying to watch a tv show or movie.
So I received the package as of 30 minutes ago. I replaced the obvious bad cap (bulging) and then i proceeded to screw on the psu and test it. Upon turning it on the first time the tv worked. It said HDMI in the corner whereas before this point it didn't say anything. I was using the buttons on the side and couldn't get the volume or anything to pop up on the screen. So I turned it off and tried to the use the remote. Upon turning it on with the remote the light blinked 15 times and now I'm at the same point again where nothing is working....
I'm completely new to the forums so please correct me if I do something wrong or post in the wrong location.
So here's the situation:
A week ago I found an LG 37LC2D-UD tv in the hallway next to the stairs, not having one I decided to take it thinking I might get lucky. After searching up the serial number I came across this forums and read up a lot of what other people experienced with the tv.
At the time of posting this I'm currently visiting home so I can't add pictures until sunday evening. This is the first time I've ever...
Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hey all, I'm new to the whole self repairing electronics scene. I found a tv next to the stairs in my apartment buildings and couldn't help opening it up to see what was causing it to not work. And from that point I just started to enjoy learning these new things that would probe useful for situations like that. I'm happy to be apart of this wonderful community and hope to be as helpful to others as this forum as helped me.
