    LG 60PV450-UA Troubleshooting

Greetings people smarter with circuity then myself

I recently bought myself a broken plasma tv for cheap in hopes of using it as a learning experience seeing as I've never taken a tv apart before.

The tv is an LG 60PV450-UA.

With all components installed the following sequence happens when I hit the power button:
I hear a click, the red standby light turns off for a second then reilluminates only to fade out, hear another click. About six seconds later another 2 clicks in a row and the red light illuminates.

I disconnected the YSUS board and the some events happened.

I plugged back in the YSUS board and unplugged the ZSUS board from the power board and the TV powered up. The image is visible but looks almost burned, I attached a photo.

Since the tv stayed on with the ZSUS board unplugged I checked the voltages I could which are:

    VS TP - 202v (listed - 201v)
    VA TP - 55v (listed - 55v)
    VSC - 148v

I suspect this is all normal because the ZSUS board is unplugged.

On the ZSUS board which came with the TV there was a bit of burning on one of the copper coils so I bought a new ZSUS board but the symptoms are the same.

To the best of what I can tell there are two options, either the ZSUS board I purchased is broken, or there is something else wrong with the tv.

If I could get some troubleshooting advice I would greatly appreciate it. I've looked over all the boards and it doesn't look like any of the capacitors are bulging and I checked continuity on all the fuses.

Try this, Unplug the LVDS cable from the Controller Board to the Mainboard. (while the unit is off and unplugged) (all boards need to be plugged in Y/X ect)

There is a spot on the controller board that you can jump with a piece of wire (Pins R51 and R52) that will bring up the test patterns when you plug the unit back in and turn it on.

Honestly, it looks like you got a bad Xmain to me, check the solider joints on the back of the board on the 3 Copper inductor coils.

I unplugged the LVDS cable which I assume is the one shown unplugged in the picture attached, jumperd out pins R51 and R52, plugged in the TV but the symptoms are the same as when the everything is plugged in, I hear relays clicking but the TV won't turn on.

As for the solder joints on the back of the main board on the 3 Copper inductor coils, upon visual inspection they seem to be in good shape.

The LVDS is the blue ended larger white ribbon cable, did you have it unplugged?

Also, what is that plug hanging at the top of the photo? If that is connected to the PS to the Controller board plug it back in :P

Then re run the test above.

That plug hanging was the plug I thought you were referring to. I plugged that back in, unplugged the large blue ended ribbon cable, kept the jumper in, but the symptoms stayed the same.

Can you show us how you made the jumper?

For a jumper I used a little piece of bent metal, it shows continuity from R51 to R52.

I also attached a picture of the entire back.

So to establish what you have done, you only got the distorted picture of the menu system with the Xmain unplugged? So the Controller board/Mainboard is working.

Do the same jumper test with the Xmain unplugged.

I unplugged the Xmain board, left the LVDS cable from the Controller Board to the Mainboard unplugged, and the jumper in. I powered up the tv and it is running through the test sequence, with distorted image.

Interesting, when I was troubleshooting mine I couldnt get anything to show up with the Xmain out of circuit.

To me it looks like your Xmain is bad.

Get some voltage readings off your Ysus while the test patterns are going.

You will see VSCN and VY test points with + and - pads touch your probes to those points and see what your are getting.

Use the photo below as a guide, your voltages will be posted on the inside of your panel.

The voltages I got are as follows:
VY is -178.5. Listed voltage is -178.
VSC is 149.6, listed is 150.

                            ok, your Ysus is fine.

Seems like you got a bad Xmain, unfortunatly those are not easy to get right now lol seems everyone is buying them up or charging an obscene amounts for em.

Thats unfortunate, this is the board I bought to replace the one it came with, it appears I was sold a broken board. I'll email the manufacturer, hopefully they can send a new one.

Yeah, I would get on it ASAP. Did you get if off ebay or a website?

Also you can use either revision of Xmain on your panel too BTW.

Thought Encompass only sold new boards, factory direct. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else?

You can usually get LG parts fairly cheap from them, seem to remember new Y-buffers $60 each, which whilst pricey compared to most used ones, isn't too bad for a new part...

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
                                          • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
                                          • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

                                          Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.
