    2 Long 5 Short Flashes on Sharp 60" LC60LE64OU

First and foremost, thank you all for sharing your knowledge. I can't tell you how much so many of us "noobs" appreciate it.

I have a 60" Sharp, model #LC60LE64OU, that came into my shop. When you press the power button the Sharp logo flashes 2 long and 5 short, nothing appears on the display. On tear down one of the flex cables from the backlight to (what I think is) the T-Con board is burned (see photo). I've procured replacement ribbons but I see no burned components on the board, neither side. All the capacitors look good too, so I'm down to board swapping and was wondering which of the three I should start with? Or are there components I should test instead and if so on which board?

Thank you in advance, your knowledge is greatly appreciated!

A burnt ribbon like that screams of a bad LCD panel which would not be repairable. Has the TV had water damage? Probably something on the panel is shorted - Sharp panels aren't particularly known for sudden panel death but water will kill any of these modern super thin LED-LCD TVs...

Ok, so just for kicks (and because I have 4 extra ribbons), I installed a new ribbon and turned it on, still get the 2 long and 5 short, but the new ribbon doesn't burn. Still a dead panel or could it be something else?

Perhaps the fuse has blown on the T-con, or if the LCD has failed dead short completely it's tripping a power supply protection.

I'm not seeing any traditional fuses on the T-con, unless you mean SM capacitors, but I'm not seeing any blown ones of those either. I'm pretty new at repairing TVs but no place else in my city does it, so I'm trying to learn as fast as possible.

Your picture isn't clear enough but I think I can make out a small surface mount one near the power connector on the T-con. Can you upload a bigger picture looking at the T-con from the top down?

Here is the photo you requested.

I think I know what/where you're talking about. It looks like there may have been a SMC by the number "4" or am I way off? I have no clue what size it would have been though.

Those two components with a green near FB4801/FB4901 look to be fuses; try checking them for continuity.

@marcoclo, did you have a burnt ribbon cable too?

@marcoclo - the power supply is a board on the back of the set. Did you replace the board or does your tv have an external power supply?

I found a site that lists the LED codes for this make & model Sharp TV.

Something pretty bad must have happened for the cable to burn...

Yeah, the connector for the power cable was bent from the power board, I'm betting that someone tripped on it while it was turned on and it caused a surge as one contact was all but removed from the power connector.
