hello kind people. i was recently gifted a curtis lcd tv model lcd2425a. i was told that it worked & that it just needed a remote. so i plug it in and the red standby light comes on. i look for a power button but do not find one. i press the standby, menu, volume, channel, and source buttons on the unit but get no image or light displayed on the screen, nor do i hear any sounds at all when i put my ear to it.
i purchased a new universal remote and followed the instructions to program the code for curtis lcd tvs that was supplied with the remotes package. multiple times the remote responds as if it was successfully programmed but still there is no response from the tv when any button is pressed on the remote or on the unit.
turning the lights off in the room failed to show any signs of illumination. nor did shining a flashlight into the front or into the back thru the air vents reveal any image. there is only the persistant solid red standby light to give me any impression that the unit is still alive.
i apologize, as i do not own a camera to take & upload pictures of the unit.
thinking maybe the unit has to have an input attached to wake itself i attached my laptop to it thru a vga cable. the winxp laptop recognized that it was attached to a duel monitor setup when i then checked display properties, calling it "generic television". i enabled 'extend my windows desktop onto this monitor'. alas, altho the laptop recognized it was connected to the tv, no attempt to drag items onto the secondary deskspace or any other configuration from the laptop produced any sound, image, or light on the tv.
could it be that the unit will not work with universal remotes even tho the user manual i downloaded for the unit gives a code for universal remotes? i see that there are $30 universal remotes that claim to work for my specific model available. i also see that i can supposedly send $15 directly to the manufacturer in toronto for a replacement remote.
does anyone know if i have to have a remote to power on this unit? it seems to me that even if i had no remote i should be able to manually press the menu button on the unit to get an OSD screen at least. again, no response from any buttons on the unit. thank you for your time.
