Samsung PS50B850Y1W 50" Plasma. Green vertical bar!

Hi guys

I have a green bar on the left side of the image(see attached picture pls). I
open the set, and remove the annoying metal bars to get to the boards at the
bottom. Here I can see that the flat cables from the panel seems to NOT go
into sockets, but instead looks like they are attached to the board in a
different way..maybe glued or soldered? (see attached picture pls)

If that bottom board is defective, does that mean that the entire panel is
compromised? The boards on the sides have the panel flat cables in sockets!

The bottom board says:
Model No. 50 U SLIM LOGIC
PCB No.: LJ41-06439A
Rev. AA1
PBA No.: LJ92-0169A

Any advice would be more than welcome!!

Yes, if that board is bad = bad panel. But don't jump to conclusions yet. Someone more experienced should be able to chime in.

That was what I was afraid of. Seems weird to produce it this way.
If it is bad component on the board I might be able to work on it 'in situ'.

That would be both "cost cutting" and "planned destruction" at their finest.

No connectors to reduce cost and twice as many tab bonds to fail.

I tried to poke the board to see if there was a change, but no luck. I take it that
a component in the area has failed. Has anyone tried to fix such a board, and what
component could fail?

No need to hit it with the heat gun, eh?

Hi again!

Take a look at this! Attached picture. There are two holes in the ribbon cable going to the bottom board. There are not any screw holes behind it, but something has drilled into the metal. I have no idea how this happened, the previous owner says he never opened the set, and there is no logical way you could ever screw something down there.The area is covered by the metal plate that attaches to the stand.

If I turn the cable the other way, I get two bars in a different place, blue and yellow. I thought I was in Sweden for a moment...quite a shock.

Do you guys think this warrents getting a replacement cable? The ribbon cable is a 30cm E129545 AWM 20861 VW-1.

Update: The two holes through the ribbon line up with the holes for the stand. However, none of the screws from the TV
would be able to edge into the aluminium like this. I think the previous owner might have done it by accident, maybe during
wall mounting or something.

You can try to find a ribbon cable from the same model TV. The #'s on the cable are the manufacturers code for that type ribbon.

Other ribbons with same #'s may or may not have the proper shaped connections at each end.

It most likely is the problem.

On some earlier Samsung LED TVs (B-series) Samsung added a warning label to the back warning the user to use the supplied screws only. The tcon was mounted behind the stand - so it was apparently very easy to damage!

I have some ribbon cables en route, I will report back when I get one installed!

I've had this happen before to a tv I picked up. Pretty sure yhe new cable will fix the issue

I had a far right pink bar due to damaged ribbon on a Panasonic, though that was entirely my fault in that case. Hope it fixes it for you. I quite like the ultra-slim B850 design.
