I got this Samsung 65 inch curved tv which someone else had tried to fix.
Black and white lines fade in when power is applied to the tv. They fade out pretty quick and the backlight shuts off. Think its the intro logo for the tv being distorted. Then the backlight turns back on with no image. Also noticed when i remove power from thd tv, the red led flashes on and off for a 10-20 seconds which does not seem normal.
The first thing I noticed after opening it is that tcon fuse F1 was missing. Not sure if it was blown off or someome removed it. I replaced with a good tcon...

Got this Samsung PN59D530 59in plasma from a guy that said he had two of them that both got fried after a lightning storm. Both fuses on power supply check out okay. On the header that goes from power supply to main board, I am getting 5.3v for PS_ON and 2.7v for Standby, but no readings from any of the other pins. When I unplug the cable from the motherboard standby then reads 3.8v instead of 2.7.. I tried to jump standby and ps_on and still got no readings from the other rails, but I think maybe I am not jumping it right.
How can I determine if it's the mainboard? What's the... -

Welp, I screwed up and knocked the resistor off the board. My soldering tip is probably too blunt for work this small. So I put a dab of solder on the remaining contacts where the resistor used to be. Tv powers on, but the backlights are still turning off.Leave a comment:

Fail pin on IC1000, 2.8v when I turn the tv on and backlights come on. After backlight shuts off it goes to 1.8v and then drops to .4v after aprox a second.Leave a comment:

LD_ERR - When I turn the TV on I see 3.4v, then when the tv powers on it drops to .007 volts... When the backlight turns on it says 0.0 volts but makes my volt meter display blink 3-4 times then when backlight shuts down it goes back to 3.5 - 3.6 volts.Leave a comment:

Thanks budm! CN1000 gave similar readings on all 4 pins. Immediately after pressing power button reading is 39v-41v.. Then when the backlight comes on it goes down to 4-6v, backlight shuts off 2 seconds later and reading goes back to around 40v.
I also tested CN1001 header and the reading on all the pins, 180v before backlight comes on, 215v after, back to 180v when backlight shuts off.Leave a comment:

Thanks redwire. So I grounded out the BL_Error wire before the [I]bottom[/I] power board and now when I plug it in it the standby light still turns red and I still have to hit power twice to get it to power on. The backlight will still shut off after 2 seconds, but the TV doesnt put itself into standby mode anymore at this point (no blinking, remains on but w no backlight) and I was able to verify I could see see an image with a flashlight and hear the sound when pressing volume keys.
I then grounded the BL_error before the[I] top [/I]power board...Leave a comment:

Good evening, friends. Here I have a Sony KDL-55EX720 that when plugged in the standby light is solid red. When I press the power button once, the red light disappears. When I price the power button again, the TV turns on and says HDMI in the upper right hand corner but turns off again after 1-2 seconds and then the standby light blinks red 4 times, pauses, blinks 4 times again indefinitely.
My first guess is a possible bad LED backlight or driver board, but how can I troubleshoot this? I have a DMM, but I just need some guidance on what to check for.

I acquired three Acer X241W all with the same symptoms:
Green power led comes on, but no backlight. Will turn on and off normally, but no backlight. I could not tell if there was an image when looking at it w/ flashlight.
Many of the caps on PSU looked bulged so I got a repair kit and used it to recap the psu. I also replaced one cap on the mainboard that looked iffy.
It didnt come with enough capacitors to recap everything, but I was able to replace most of the capacitors and all of the ones that looked shady. I noticed budm's Acer x241 photos were used...Last edited by AFajitas; 03-28-2015, 04:08 PM. -

I used to feel bad when I worked in IT because I had gotten to a level where I could consistently figure out complicated issues on my own. Issues that many others were having given all the forum posts etc I ran across. It was so fast paced that I felt like I never had the time to go back and post my fix for others to find.
