    Sony 40S20LI Success Story

    Ironically enough, no question here.

Just wanted to pass on a success story..

Got in a Sony 40S20LI. When powered up, there was a high-pitched whine. There was a picture (analog snow) but the upper half of the screen was darker.. After a few seconds, the system would shut off...

Figured it was the side boards (buffers??) that were shorted or bad. I pulled off the "blast shield" to see if I could see where the problem was...

Lo and behold, the TV powered up and worked fine..

So, I can only assume that the shield was shorting the upper board in some manner..

Just passing it on, since I see a LOT of comment threads regarding Sonys...

I had a sony a while back that the backlight board was arcing to the chassis because that 'blast-shield' was a little bent somehow.

Bent it back out and made sure the board had some clearance to the chassis, the set was fine then....
