    Phillips 47PFL6704D/F7 Blown Ceramic Capacitor

I found this TV in the dumpster. I opened it up and found EY67, a 331K 1KV (330pf 1000V) capicitor, was blown apart and a large burnt mark on the board. I dug through my parts bin and found a 221k and a 102k and soldered them in parallel. The set powered right up. I then shut it down and unplugged it.

What would cause that cap to blow? What other component(s) would you check/change before buttoning it up?

    Thanks

Back of board and my "fix". The tip of the screwdriver is showing EY67.

It is snubber cap connected to the Source and Drain for that MOSFET on the heatsink, ceramic cap failed in shorted mode and the voltage spike can be higher than the cap rated Voltage. I usually replace it with higher Voltage rating.

2KV or is that too much?

Voltage rating on the capacitor indicates how much voltage it can safely handle, you can't have "too much" - but you can have too little. The original one was 1kV so use a 1kV or higher. Do NOT use anything lower than 1kV!

A 2kV rated one would be fine.

            That's what I figured. Thanks!

              Samsung C32HG70 - Blown Ceramic Capacitor (CP813)

              Hi everyone,

I'm new to this, so I apologize for not providing enough details. Is there anything else I need to mention? I'm trying to learn more about electronic/board repairs and hopefully fix my own.

The only visible issue on my board is one capacitor, CP813, which appears to be labeled R 221k 2kV (possibly obsolete to B 221k 2kV now). My monitor hadn't shown any prior issues, although it is a few years old. Just before the capacitor popped, there was a high-pitched squeal for 2–3 seconds.

I don't see any other visible damage anywhere else on the board....

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

              Title:
Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

              Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.

              Procedure performed:
              - Removed backplate
              - Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
              - Reapplied thermal compound
              - Reassembled card

              Observed behavior after reassembly:
              - GPU powers on and operates normally under...

Is it possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue meter?
              by chth96
I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that

"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."

Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...

Blown capacitor repair on MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT MECH OC
              by MeetingIncapable
              Hello,

I am new to repairing computer electronics, so excuse any mistakes I make.

A friend of mine had a broken graphics card (MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT MECH OC) and gave it to me. It does not power on or show any signs of life.
I identified what looks like the remains of a blown capacitor at the bottom of the board (see picture).

I wanted to replace the capacitor, but I have two questions:
              • Does this repair have a chance of working? or is a blown capacitor a sign something else is wrong?
              • How do I determine the rating/value of this capacitor? or something
              ...
