    Sony KDL55ex640

    Turns on no problem.

Problem is green vertical lines through all video sources.

    Tcon or Mainboard?

Just want to replace the bad board but not sure which is the problem.

after a lot of google searches I see some say mainboard and others say tcon.

I am thinking tcon but just wanted experts advice on this.

    thanks

go for a tcon if you can get one cheap enough, if its not that, at least you have a spare and you can rule it out.

yes i did do that. cleaned and reseated all cables.
i am just concerned its a tab bonding issue and i don't have a lot of money to spend right now. although in my experience if it is a tab bonding problem it is usually not the hole screen. I am just trying to make some extra cash to pay some bills so i just want to fix it quick and sell it.

if its a tab bond/panel fault, you wouldn't want to sell it, but you could prob. get some use out of it, I wouldn't sell a tv, with a known bad panel, could part it out maybe.

Tear it down and see if you get any positive results from pressure on the tabs. Might as well rule that out if you can before proceeding.

                      Re: Sony KDL55ex640

i believe it is a samsung panel.
only sticker on it is LJ96-05960A

i believe that is a samsung part number.

that is my concern. don't want to get stuck with something i don't need. i am aware of samsungs panel tab bonding problems from the past....

just went through that with an LG PLASMA 50pv400 where bottom half of screen is messed up. I ended up buying new bottom & top buffers. new z and y sustain boards and control board and still have same problem.
                      costly mistakes.

trashed it. it was a tab bonding problem. what a huge waste.
well i actually will part it out but i hate to throw out a good screen all for a manufacturing problem.

                          What kind of tab problem?
                          Sorry to hear that.
It happened to me too, with a 55EX720. I have bought it for $180, a very long drive and a $75 mainboard later, the tab it was punctured from the blown traces, from the panel's PCB.

Tab problem does not have to be bad?? Was the picture ok when you used some pressure?
I got a philips ambilight 8404 series , also tab problem. I fixed it with putting some hard carbon paper between the tabs and casing so its pushed down. ( also with double sided tape) Its been working as it should work without any problems for almost a year now.
I only repair Panasonic plasma tv's! Currently owning a TX-P55VT50 and still searching for a ZT60!

i agree a tab bonding problem doesn't have to be all bad but I don't feel comfortable selling a tv with a tab bond problem.

it slightly improved with pressure but not completely. still had some lines that faded in and out.

i am just trying to make a few $ right now while im not working and the last thing I want is to sell something to someone and have them back at my door a few weeks later after I have spent the money on a bill or something.

at least i saved the $ and didn't buy anything for it....

thanks for all the suggestions etc.

I really do love this site. everyone is very helpful and very very friendly.

i have a few more to look at and will post if i am having any more issues.

                                  Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

Sony KD-75XF9005 grey Picture but Sound. TCON or panel?
                                  by iglitare
                                  Hi,

i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.

Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted...

                                  Hello all ~

Hope this finds you well. This LG 82UN8570AUD (April 2021 model) 4K UHD television has full audio capabilities but video is compromised / problematic.

When I picked up this large LG tv it had a full black screen upon startup. Previous owner said it just went black one day. No popping sound or anything else of note.

I got the display to work by taping off several traces of the right-hand side ribbon cable on the TCON that leads from TCON to PANEL. However, despite dozens and dozens of attempts to find the right combination / range of traces taped...

                                  Sony KD-55X9000F TCON Issue
                                  by thelankanguy
The TV shows a black screen with no image.
TCON ribbon connectors were disconnected individually for image and there was no half image even.
Later both ribbons were disconnected and TCON voltages were tested.
12V, 3.3V, 1.8V were seen present but VONE signal reads 0V.
There is also a short to ground in this circled inductor.
Is this a TCON issue or something else ?...

                                  Hi,

I have this problem with my Sony 55' AG9.
                                  It flashes 4x.
I have found the service manual, and seems it is the TCON.

Before I buy a TCON can someone check the vid?

                                  Thanks in advance!...
