Re: What tv brand do you most common repair ?
I have to say Vizio I see the most. Every bloody one of them the mainboard dies, usually the eeprom chip. I even have a jvc that I think is a rebadged vizio and same thing bad eeprom chip. It bears a very striking resemblance to a Vizio.
The worst was a 21" razor edge lit Vizio. Selling for 225 at Walmart a few months back. Lady turned it on 7 times in 2 months. Bam stuck at the Vizio logo, bad eeprom.
Sold it to me for 20 bucks even know still under warranty. I bought the 15 usd eeprom chip, fixed it, and resold it.
The off brand Hisense, Emerson, etc with the combo power/main led tv I see a lot of those.
Last on the list is Dynex, Best Buy brand. Not sure who makes them, but see a lot of failed panels.

Be very careful with cleaning stuff on plasmas - a friend of mine had a 6th gen Pioneer and they use the wrong cleaner, damaged the antireflective film on the glass, result is there's a part of the picture left of centre that's brighter than the rest. Doh!Leave a comment:

I use IPA to clean my screenI have gallons of the stuff as I do BGA reworking. It insta evaporates and leaves no residue.
Mrs went to copy me once.... Luckily I was there as she went to clean it with MEK!!! :SLeave a comment:

Re: What tv brand do you most common repair ?
I do see a lot of failed panels still TBH, Especially when looking around the area for sets on local sites... Samsung panels! I don't touch them so can't say the causes 100% but most likely water damage to the tabs as they are bottom mounted on newer designs to alleviate heat issuesLeave a comment:

Re: What tv brand do you most common repair ?
I see all brands that are worth spending your hard-earned on!
Mostly Samsung because of market share and I agree about 2011.
However, I still get older LG, Vizio,Panasonic,Philips and Sharp.I turn away a lot
of Sony with bad panels. And since the first of the year, I am very choosey about
older plasma of any brand = diagnosis fee up front or go away ! ( $120.00 )Last edited by Terryfictv; 04-22-2015, 12:35 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: What tv brand do you most common repair ?
That makes me sad...my two favorite TVs (LG)...one is a late 2011 and the other an early 2012. But I bought them both pre-owned (so about half of what was retail). The older one I've had for about 2 years now and is up to about 9,500 hours. It runs around 15-16 hours a day, continuously. The newer one I've only had for about 4 months and it's maybe at about 4,500 hours. It runs about 12 hours a day, continuously. So far, so good, though I do keep an extended warranty going on both, just for the hell of it.
I was actually going to ask what years are showing up for repair of late. So with that now known, what kind of repairs are they (if there is one that's seen more often than others)? Surely we're well beyond bad caps and bad tab bonds?
EDIT: Just for giggles, I decided to go take a quick look on Google and see if I could figure out what the most common repair might be for my TVs (both CS570s - a 42" and a 47"). It seems like maybe the most common problem is intermittent starting, or shutting off shortly after startup, which is fixed by replacing either the mainboard or PSU. So at least it's not bad LCD panels, which is good!Last edited by mwalsh; 04-22-2015, 12:24 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: What tv brand do you most common repair ?
I agree most of the tvs I get are 2011 sets, that's probably the year they all started going cheap and poor quality and now 3 years later they are all failing.Last edited by ReeceyBurger123; 04-22-2015, 01:56 AM.Leave a comment:

Only ever had a few of LG in and only 1 Samsung, All LG's have been panel or LED failures, Minus one which was vestel boards and that was a bad startup capLeave a comment:

by France_53Hello everyone from Italy, I'm here to ask for help on a Vestel TV, I've had a Vestel TV branded "XD" with a broken screen for years, but now I've found a Telefunken (still Vestel but older) and I've mounted the panel on the "XD" TV, it works, but the screen is upside down, given that Vestel does not allow you to rotate the image from the service menu, does anyone know how to solve the problem? the original panel is marked ves315WNDS-2D-N12 while the main board 17mb110, the panel I mounted instead in the tv (from the telefunken) is a ves315WNDA-02. ... It is not worth repairing...

by cookAre there good brands for 'run capacitors' or 'start capacitors' that are used on electric motors or heat pump compressors? ... r are the good capacitor brands for electronics (power supplies, laptops, motherboards, etc.) also the good brands for run capacitors?
Yeah I know this might be a novice question, but I just wanted to be sure. I did do a search on the forum but did not see this question asked before.
Thanks-
