Coby TFDVD2395 - strange main board problem

I got this Coby 23" TV, which was dumped, and to my surprise when I brought it home and plugged in, it worked just fine. It has DVD player built in and my son watched it for couple hours, picture and everything was good. Which made me wondering why somebody would dump such nice TV... I unplugged it for night, but next day when I plugged it in again - it's dead. No standby light, leds are off, but DVD inside is spinning and ejects. But it doesn't really plays anything. I jumped 5V with resistor to ON to force blacklight on and this giving me picture like in attachment with colored lines, it shows it for second, then goes to all white screen (like with t-con disconnected), then all blue screen, then back to colored lines and it gust keep going this way.
Power board have 12V and 5V with main disconnected, but when main is connected - 15V and ~4.5V, no 3V.
When I got this TV, it was outside at 40 degrees so I tried to recreate situation by putting all thing in fridge (didn't work), and putting just main in freezer (didn't work too).
I wonder what happened and why it works one day and doesn't work next day. Apparently this is reason why it was dumped, so it happened before too, I think.

No yet, suspecting EEPROM because I see some of them are sold on ebay (for this series of Coby TVs, but not for one I got). For now I'm watching for EEPROM or reasonable priced main for this model on ebay. So far I see them only for $45+ which I think is overkill for 23" TV

I wonder if there is a way to update the firmware through the USB port (I have done that for some Sony before). I have similar problem with the 32" Coby version. The user guide refers to Coby's web site for firmware upgrades. But the site does not exist any more because they went out of business.

It would be pain if we had to change the whole eeprom..

Putting TV parts in fridge or freezer is likely to coat them with condensation. This will not allow an accurate test of the TV's function at reduced temperature. At room temperature, try spraying suspect components or circuit board with a little freeze spray. It's sold at electronics stores, Fry's, etc.
