Samsung 40 inch dark screen

Buddies TV worked great for a while but soon the screen started to darken.
Now when he turns on the TV the image is dark.
The model is LE40B550A5
What could be the problem with his TV?

The image is so dark not worth taking a picture of it.
Been trying to find info on back light but there is a lot of info on this site.

Not necessarily. Can't see a photo, could it just be backlight going dim? It's rare to get a dim/blur panel failure on a B-series Samsung.

if you could post some good clear pics. of the tv with back off, all the boards, makes it a lot easier to help, a pic. is worth a thousand words.

your saying sound and no picture, if I understand correctly, makes me think something wrong with inverter, maybe.
