    Tuner Spec Question

My cable provider is COX and I am able to connect directly to cable without using their box and still get a lot of channels. Here's my question...On 2 of my tv's I get channels 2-69 plus I get channels 1005-1011 which are the same as channels 5-11 except they are in HD. They are our local channels. On 2 of my other tv's I don't get channels 1005-1011. I thought it might be something to do with the date of manufacture but I won the RCA listed below and it was made April 2014 and it doesn't get those channels. The only detailed spec I could find was the Toshiba so I'll start with it:

    THESE 2 GET CHANNELS 1005-1011

    Toshiba 46XV645U MFG: 07/09
    NTSC STANDARD
    ATSC STANDARD
64 QAM, 256 QAM, IN THE CLEAR, UNENCODED

    CHANNEL COVERAGE:
    VHF 2-13
    UHF 14-69
    MIDBAND (A7-A1, A-D)
    SUPER BAND (J-W)
    HYPER BAND (AA-ZZ, AAA, BBB)
    ULTRA BAND (65-94, 100-135)

    SAMSUNG PN58B640S3F MFG:05/09
    NO INFO

    THESE 2 DONT:

    RCA LED32G30RQ MFG: 04/14
    NO INFO

    SAMSUNG HP-S5053 MFG:06/06
    NO INFO

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Re: Tuner Spec Question

I asked COX's Technical Support people and they acted dumb and said they were not aware of any way to get any HD channels without one of their boxes.

I think it has something to do with the presence of the QAM decoders which may not be present in the other sets, one being older and the other possibly as a cost cutting measure. You would have to check the menu options on that RCA to see if there is anything there in regards to it.

Apparently not all QAM decoders are the same. I found some set top HD converters that also work with cable that have QAM but when I asked the seller if it would receive 1005-1011 he said it would not get 4 digit channels. I also tried a DVR that had a digital tuner with QAM and it didn't get them either. I'd just like to be able to know which will or wont.

LG 49UJ6500 LCD panel lighter band that goes away
            by howardc64
49UJ6500 LCD panel has a lighter band on top when first powered on. Goes away (or gets much fainter) after TV on for a few min. After powered off for awhile and power back on, same band appears. If powered on immediately after powering off, no or much fainter band. Running the latest firmware.

Disassembled the TV and lifted the LCD panel during testing. Band is on the LCD panel (can see the band on the panel as I lift it slightly) Backlight is perfectly even at the top edge. Double checked LCD panel alignment in the frame and is perfect but since band moved with the panel, its on...

            Samsung PN51F8500AFXZA broke off the tuner's F connector, can't get tuner de-soldered
            by DXseekerMO
I can hear Fred Sanford now...."YOU BIG DUMMY".....I pulled the "F" connector out of the tuner by accident. The tuner number is BN40-00248B. Low and behold I had a scrap board with tuner number BN40-00248A. Although the tuner is different (according to Encompass.com) it's footprint on the board is exactly the same as the 248B so I decided to de-solder the tuner off the scrap board to see what I was getting in to.

As you can see in the picture the terminals and solder pads are super small. No matter what I tried I could not get either the terminals or support...

            Anthem MRX500 - no sound

            Dear Electronics Experts:

I have the following problem I am trying to troubleshoot. Unfortunately, I have contacted Anthem themselves and even a local distributer but I am not having much luck. Also, I have scoured the internet and unable to obtain a service manual. The Anthem service rep has also replied that he is unable to provide me with any service documentation. I have performed numerous searches on the internet and cross-referenced a few other AV receiver makers (Denon, Marantz, Onkyo) and found certain similarities to block diagram...

Harmon Kardon AVR340 no sound on 4 channels
            by r2digital
Hello, i had this amp sitting in the closet knowing that none of the channels were working. After taking it all apart i found 4 bulging main filter caps so i went ahead and replaced those with low ESR kmet caps. However after doing this it only restored sound to Surround L, Surround R, and Center channel. The main speaker fuse on the transformer F905/F906 keeps blowing so i decided to remove all of the transistor's on those 4 channels and measure them. All transistors appear to be in good working order(turned receiver on with none of them installed and fuse still blows). Checked dual emitter resistors...

Advice needed-Technika 32-207 works but sticks on channel, won’t change channels ok
            by rustinjust
My tv will work for a while and change channels with the remote as it should but then it will stick on one channel only and work ok but it won't change channels. I have tried unplugging it for hours and whilst unplugged pressing the power button on the tv to reset it.

The volume button on the remote still works but it just won't change channels once it decides to stick on one channel

It has built in basic freeview tv here in the uk, I've tried doing an automatic search to reset the tv but nothing works.

I have to turn the tv off and then on again with...
