Probably related to the drive to the gate common drivers (runs along the left or right) if a solder joint failed under one of the COFs then it would possibly disrupt the drive signal for a repeated part of the screen.
It seems that the signals for the gate drives pass through the left or rightmost tab bonds, so a failure there generally leads to a fault with the rows in some way.
