Re: possible timing control fault with Samsung LE37M87BD
HPD
The HPD (Hot-Plug-Detect) feature is a communication mechanism between a source and a sink device that makes the source device aware that it has been connected/disconnected to/from the sink device. When an HDMI cable is inserted between the two devices, the resulting hot-plug detection instantiates a start-up communication sequence. The EDID information stored in the sink device gets read by the source device though the DDC bus, and the source device typically presents itself on the CEC link and requests basic status information from the sink device such as its power status as well as other devices on the HDMI chain.Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

HDMI is plug and play. One of my jobs at work is to hot-plug set top boxes on as many TVs as possible.
@Mikey, I doubt the seller ever tested their boards. This fault is so common that someone may well have smashed their TV over it, hence the faulty board. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Yes all our boxes work plug and play. I tested nearly 25 the other day, Samsung 4K 55" LCD to 16" 720p off-brand Technika one. They all worked. They also survive very high ESD events. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: possible timing control fault with Samsung LE37M87BD
Ok - maybe the hdmi spec has been improved on both TVs and sources
and on cables. Me - luddite - dont trust them
@Goontron - you are assuming manufacturers adhere to the specifications and controls.
There is one manufacturer in the UK/Europe who seem to send stuff out to the unsuspecting public
