    Y-Board Issue w/ Samsung HP-R4252?

    Hi all,

I've had my Samsung HP-R4252 Plasma TV for about 8yrs now, and just recently the screen went out when I was using it. I was watching tv like I normally do and I heard a loud pop, and then the screen went black as the sound continued to go. I turned the tv on/off a few times and unplugged it, and after a few minutes of being on it would pop again (even though the screen was still black).

I read a PDF on common plasma screen problems, and since I am able to hear sound it sounds (pun intended) like it could be a Y-board issue. I am all for doing repairs on my Y-board if it's more cost efficient than buying a new TV, but is there an easy way for me to fix this without buying a bunch of tools that I don't have?

It may seem a little low, but with Black Friday coming I think the max I'd like to spend repairing this is about $75-$80. That may be absurdly low, which is fine, I just need someone to tell me that. So, can I diagnose and fix the problem for less than that? Or should I just get rid of it and hunt for a new one?

Lastly, if I do decide to get rid of it, is there a market for broken TVs? I know when I had a computer with a busted motherboard I was able to sell it to someone who fixes them as a hobby/side income.

No way of telling until you can test some of the parts with a meter and possibly a soldering iron, which may require an investment on your part. Then depending on what you find...

Yes there is a market for non working televisions. Have a look at Craigslist for starters.

      Thanks for the reply.

Best case scenario, what is my cost going to be for tools + cheapest possible part?

IMO its pretty old only 1024x768 resolution. IPM fail on the Y-sus on these unit and the repair cost if you cannot do it yourself can hit around 150-175. Even if you get a used working Y-sus you also run the risk of it popping as you have no idea how many hours are on it.

Like you said, Black Friday is coming up and you can probably get a nice 40+ 1080p 1920x1080 smart tv LED panel for cheap or if you want a plasma you will have to go to your local scratch n dent open box retail. Not many plasma panels left on the open market that are cheap (Samsung and LG).

All depends on what you want really. If you feel you can fix it go for it! But I am sure someone on CL or any other local sale site would snag it up for cheap to try and DIY fix it them selves.

These older Sammy plasmas do have a decent picture I have fixed a few of them but they are hard to sell due to the low resolution and its age.

Samsung UE48JU7000 screen issue after backlight replacement
          by ScHAmPi
          Hi all,

Because of two bright spots and a couple of dark spots I decided to replace the backlights in my Samsung UE48JU7000. See attached photos:

I thought all went well, but after full assembly and testing it out it turns out not all is fine. The backlights are completely fine but I have some weird issues on the right half of the screen. Since I didn't really touch the T-CON board (apart from taking out the ribbons of the display and reconnecting them on assembly) it would be weird that the issue is with the T-CON board... But based on the behavior of the service...

          Samsung UE55JU6800K half screen dark
          by Chrissygizmo
Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...

samsung galaxy ao2s very temperamental after screen replaced
          by Chrissygizmo
Hi , I've recently replaced the screen in my Samsung galaxy ao2s, at first it wouldn't even turn on, it had the charging symbol on the screen when plugged in but the green circle wasn't going around to show it charging....
Ive eventually managed to get it on and working but it's very temperamental...

The battery icon always reads as 50% , when the phone goes into lock screen mode i sometimes can't get the screen back on unless I plug the charger in to get it to light up, also it keeps putting the camera app on.. u think it could be something to do with the side buttons. ...

Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100 - BIOS Issue, Black Screen
          by wizard13
          Hello everyone,

I am experiencing a BIOS-related issue with my Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100. When I power on the laptop, the screen stays black, and there is no response from the system. I suspect a corrupted BIOS.

I have checked the forum and the available documentation but could not find a solution specific to my issue.

Samsung LH82QENELGC/EN Help needed - Static line on screen
          by Kiberge
          HI guys!

I've got a Samsung LH82QENELGC/EN with a problem and need some advice and I hope this is the forum to use?
I'm from Norway so I'd like to apology in advance if my description of the fault is kind of simple or the names on the components are way off. 😊

the TV is powering up, working as normally and picture is all good, except a 1.5-inch-wide vertical line of snow/static across the screen.

This TV is a Signage Display/Public Display version and it's been used at my work for 4-5 years showing commercials 24/7. The fault occurred when...
