Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR6 14x Blinks error

Hello all, I've been troubleshooting some issues with our TV and got to a point over the weekend where I just was not sure whether I should get a replacement T-Con board or consider the LCD potentially faulty and just get a new TV.

    Background -
Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR6 we have had since late 2008. About a week and a half ago came home one day and it would not come on. Was getting 3-blink error (mainboard or PS). I did some troubleshooting and it appeared that PS was ok and mainboard had issues. I was able to track down at least one blown pico fuse on it and a mosfet bank IC that had smoked. I ordered those and soldered them in when I got them as well as another used mainboard off ebay just in case I could not fix it. The spare mainboard was for a KDL-46XBR6 but same model board and I had read that it should be interchangable. After soldering in the replacement components it made it a bit further but found an additional pico fuse blown I did not catch the first time around. Got that ordered and soldered in. Once I put it back together screen powered up and looked like it was coming up but then began to fail with vertical stripes and/or 14blink message. Swapped out mainboard for other one I had gotten on ebay and that got rid of the stripes but still failing with 14blink HFR error. Ok that is where I am right now.

Here are the last few things that I was hoping for some expert feedback on.
When power is applied now the LCD backlights turn on and I get a brief few second screen on the LCD saying system time was lost, etc before it shuts off and starts the 14blink error. I checked power at the PS and all the 12V reg lines going to mainboard read 11.9V, 3.3standby reads 3.3. On the T-con board I am also reading 11.9V and all the fuses appear to be intact. The service manual I was able to find did not have a schematic for the T-Con board though so I may be missing some if they are on the back of the board.

Is it possible that the T-Con board could still have gone bad when I am seeing that brief output on the screen? Should I replace that or is it more likely there is an issue with the LCD itself?

    Thanks for any response.

Another question for you guys. Will it work to use the same model mainboard for different model tv's that it is normally used in? In this case a mainboard that came from a 46" Sony in a 40".

    Thanks,
    Aaron

I would try a reset, or even a firmware upgrade, if there is one. I'm not an expert.

Have not tried a reset yet. But I did try a firmware upgrade by powering it up with USB stick in. Still went into error blinking standby mode the same. If you unplug the LVDS cable with it on during troubleshooting does a TV stay powered on? Any suggestions for next steps much appreciated.

I read the basic troubleshooting guides in the sticky and based on that it doesn't seem like a bad LCD since I can see it displaying what looks to be normally at least briefly before it goes into standby. Also not seeing any of the distortion listed in there pointing to T-Con board when it starts up but I'm wondering if it starts up with a lower refresh rate then is erroring when trying the higher 120hz rate or something.

I can try a reset tonight though and will get some pics of the boards as well.

        Thanks,
        Aaron

          Hi Aaron ,

Are all cables connected properly? Because of the stripes you are getting.
Could you try connecting for example an Xbox on HDMI/Component/Scart? To see if the stripes stay on the same part of the screen or if they are changing?

          Sorry for my english
I only repair Panasonic plasma tv's! Currently owning a TX-P55VT50 and still searching for a ZT60!

I got stripes on the original mainboard I did component repair on but not with the replacement board from the 46". Both going into 14blink HFR error. Have not tried HDMI or any other inputs yet either. When I did have stripes they were across entire screen and static.

Cables appear to be connected properly and I have not found any bent pins, etc.

            Thanks,
            - Aaron

I tried the Reset last night and it appeared to do nothing. Did not have a chance to get pics or test other inputs yet.

Bad fuse on tcon board causing this I have three of these TVs right now all had the same problem one I got back by replacing the fuse the other two work but the panels are very slow to refresh. The one good T CON works on all three TVs perfectly so there's something wrong with the other two t-con boards. but the fuse in question you are looking for is F603. Located on back of tcon lower right corner.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

I have another thread on here trying to dish out what goes wrong with these tcon boards. Your board may spring rig h y back to life and it may also not work. But this fuse obviously goes for some reason.

Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 that will not power on
                    by PopsCaps
I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 that will not power on. The indicator flashes red 3 times.
I do not hear any sound and I cannot see any backlight.
I have tried disconnecting every cable on each board one at a time to see if anything changes.
The only change is when I disconnect AC-DET cable on the Power Supply board or on the other end if I unplug the CN7009 connection on the B-Board and try to power on the TV the indicator will stay on solid green until I power off.
My friend ordered another used power supply board but it is also doing the red indicator flash 3 times...

from what i read online it looks to be an emmc issue…
i’m not familiar with this kind of tv repairs… i’m repairing laptops and gpu’s…
i took out the board and say an samsung 16gb emmc
                    i don’t have an exact replacement, but i have a few 32 and 64gb emms’s from laptops…
i could try to put one instead of the 16gb one, but will it work?
where do i get the software from?
any help will be much appreciated!...

Sony KDL-65W850C is this a Mainboard issue ??
                    by mmartell
This sat around for quite some time after the backlights died with the six blink error code. I bought replacement strips and eventually swapped them in.

Backlights appear to be working fine now. However the tv only powers on with the "Sony" logo for about two seconds after which it goes away and the panel with backlights stay powered for about twenty more seconds then it shuts off. Tv can only be powered again after power cycling at the outlet.

It will not program via usb, the stick flashes but there is never any indication that it has entered programming...
