Well the off values are exactly the same as mine! When i press the power button nothing changes so im missing the 5v OUT from the PS.

What part is causing this? Can i jump a small wire from pin 12 to pin 9? I dont want to blow up the machine but fix it

For some reason your power board CPU is not turning on the output - it is detecting a fault elsewhere.

Ill try and measure every component on the board unless you got a better idea?

Yes, that would be useful, get a 1X/10X probe with it, with that you can check AC_DET signal from the MC501 module.

                I got the 1x/10x probe. Do i need a 15MHZ or 20MHZ scope?

What are the models numbers of each? If you have the choice I'd get a tek/HP/Philips/etc over a no name brand.

Both good scopes ... I'd get the hameg as it looks to have a line trigger which will be useful for AC_DET test.

The cable i have is :

                        10M Ohm. 15pF
                        10:1 , max 500VpK

Ok i took the hameg scope with me.
Nobody uses it so the signal was not that good at first. ( Some static ). Used the pot meters back and forth and the signal is now good.

Measured the 2 pins on the front ( 2v / 5v ) and it shows it correctly. I got it now setup that it shows 1v per square.
Want me to take some pictures of the power supply + settings scope?

                                Yes, that could be useful.

Try setting scope to LINE TRIGGER then set timebase to 10ms/div. (Trace will probably start visibly pulsating.)

Then probe the AC_DET line from the MC-module... and see what you get

Dirty pots are quite common with old Hamegs, we used to have them in school all the time.

Hi, I disassemble my laptop to replace the speakers, to access them, you have to remove everything including the heat sink and fan, unscrew the motherboard, lift it up a bit to access the speaker wire.
that was not the first time I dissasemble it, i did replace the same speaker a few year ago and I repaste it last year, so I had nothing to worry about. but when I put everything back together, its completely dead.

After a bit of investigating, i found one pin of the status led ribbon cable that was unglued from the cable and bend touching another pin, I bend it back at his place...

T480s random shutoff and then completely dead

                                            Hello Gurus,

I got a ThinkPad T480s. It was running fine but suddenly started random shut down. When it turned off, I had to push the reset pin to bring it back to life. But it got aggressively worse and became completely dead. No charging light, no life.

I did some initial diagnostics with just the board (no battery, nothing attached, and no CMOS battery as well)

Initial testing of the coil resistance seems to indicate no dead short. The only low resistance I measured was at PL701. It reads 38 ohms.
                                            charger gave - 20V - ok

                                            Completely dead MSI z490 tomahawk

Trying to troubleshoot MSI z490 tomahawk board and would appreciate your help. The board is completely dead and shows no activity when the power button is pressed.

I have tried to look at the Superio, the PSIN signal seems to be correct (goes from 3.3V to 0 on button press) but the voltage on PSOUT pin is quite low. I

t is only 0.8V which seems to be incorrect but goes to 0 when the button is pressed.

Can you please let me know if this is indeed incorrect and what else should I look at next?

                                            Thanks!
