Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ85E --> Completely dead!

    Hey Tom ,

For being to enthusiastic sometimes i work on different projects at the same time , especially when I'm at work i keep searching the internet for solutions.

Anyways , my main project is this panasonic from which I really need your help! And don't forget I'm really thankful! I made a stupid mistake for seeing P25 as a 12pin connector but its 13 pin which means i had the 5v on Pin 10 which made the short of course.

With a jump from MC501/pin 13 to P25/P9 gives me a 10 blink error. It doesn't matter if i use the 5v from transistor or Pin 13.
Strange thing is that i don't need to push the button for the led to work. Actually when i press the button nothing happens. ( Led keeps blinking ).

I also don't hear any relay clicks.

Well , I'm surprised and happy i looked at it with a fresh mind , so yes the 4 projects at same time is not good at all

Is the 1uf the next thing to try or is something else wrong?

Ps , it blinks green and turns to red with 10 blinks.

5v directly does not change the problem.

Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ85E --> Completely dead!

          When i jump pin13 to P25/Pin9 i get 5v on pin 12 also.
The red led is blinking 10 times without pressing the power button and when its blinking i have 0v on SS/SC board ( Pins on power supply going to those boards , like P11 ).

          On A6 i get 5v / 3.3v / 5v.
          On A7 i get 3x 1.8v

When i remove SC board the blinking pattern does not change and i don't hear the clicks.

Removing A6/A7 / P6/P7 and the led is gone.

https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...6&d=1383456126 <-- this guide , If i check for example resistance on P6/pin 1 with ground will this work for this tv?

            SOS10 is normal.
As I said, you can feed in 5V, but the rest of the PSU has not reached that sequence yet (turning on 15V rail.)
10 blinks error is due to 15V rail fault.
So problem still exists on PSU... that P board CPU is probably detecting some fault, but exactly what? I do not know.

Ok , so you were hoping to get this 10 blink fault when jumping the pins? What i don't get is that it automatically blinks 10 without the power button , a normal functioning tv would be "off"? Or is this a protection that the tv is entering in the first place to prevent any further damage?

Im going to take the power supply with me to work and desolder some parts and check under microscope , i used the can of air upside down , maybe its shorting somewhere.
So looking at the symptoms/schematic i would say its somewhere near MC501? Pin 12 does not have the 5v and something is causing that , or is this also the protection causing the 5v not to be there?

Also when using the can of air upside down there was quite a lot of fluid which of course will freeze but at the bottom of the board there was some kind of "corrosion" afterwards.

The 15v rail is also important for the relays to work?

These sets do that. If they have the MC-module fault with the bad 1uF caps, they will do the 10 blinks as soon as they are plugged in.

I can send you parts from my broken P board if you want. If you pay shipping, I can send the whole lot, if it's any use to you.

You are a nice guy Tom , thx! Will take that in consideration if i really can't fix this machine. Maybe some part will fix the tv.

I really would like to figure out whats causing this problem. It was a static shock which means a lot of volts , it can be almost any part? And when the PS is fixed i might run into another fault…
Ow well , thx to this tv i keep learning

Normal, don't let the liquid stay on the board, always wipe it off, as an arc can form.

No, the relays are 5V, from what I remember... this means they can operate without the 15V rail active... since 15V is powered after the relays engage by PFC stage. They only activate when the CPU gives the commands.

Hmz ok. The relays dont die that quick right?

I will investigate the PB under microscope. IF you know some of the values on the MC501/552 and other boards , could you please post them? Is there a training manual for this type of PS/Chassis?

Sorry, if I knew the values I'd tell you! The circuit I drew previously was reverse engineered from looking at the board, took some nice high res photos of it and then traced it out slowly bit by bit (some assumptions made as not all parts could be determined, i.e. NPN vs PNP, only certain type makes sense in certain locations, etc.)

Yes there's a service manual HERE - that's where I keep telling you to read the schematic from......
                          http://www.toms-service-manuals.com/...&Search=Submit

PZ80B & PZ85E near identical, slight changes, same PSU and plasma panel.

I know Tom but its not as detailed as the link above. In that manual its saying measure resistance between chassis/P6 etc.
Is the basics of that training manual the same for every Panasonic? If so i can follow that manual and post my findings

Not as far as I am aware. Many TVs have the same basic functions, although Panasonic is notorious for changing designs frequently. It certainly won't be pin to pin.

                                Ok good.

Im looking at the schematic and i was wondering. Can i test the traces for continuity?
For example in the schematic ( page 41 ) , MC701/Pin 5 goes to MC352/Pin 1. If i use continuity could i check if all the traces are intact? Or should i use Ohm? Or would it just be a waste of time?

You're welcome to but it's extremely rare (I've never seen it) for a trace to go open without apparent cause (burnt component or over-current)

Just checking the schematic to see if i can find the fault , because i dont have the 12V.
When i get home ill check the following :

                                    12V on D551 ?
                                    P12/pin10 should be 12V
                                    P12/pin8 should be 12V
                                    MC552 pin 14 should be 5 V.

                                    Anymore suggestions i could check?

The reason you don't have 15V is the PSU has not yet reached that stage of the power-on routine.... Nothing more.
You need to solve the original fault of no 5v before anything else...

Maybe worth testing the AC_DET again - you should have one pulse every 10ms (2ms/div means 5 divs = 10ms)
I can't remember what you were testing it on... but I remember when my set had AC_DET fault, the signal dropped from the normal 100Hz (one pulse per zero crossing of AC voltage) to 50Hz. It had same fault, dead, no power light.

The AC_DET test was on 10 ms and was there. ( The 5v pulse ).

Do you want me to bridge the pins and test the AC_DET again? I tested pin16.
