That sounds like a bad LCD panel to me. If the image is OK with one ribbon out, it's usually the panel (I can't recall a case where it is not.)

I think it's scrap, sorry :/. You're welcome to try fiddling with the tab bonds of course, but since it just "went" I doubt it'll be fixable.

edit: Now I'm home and I see the picture, I would definitely say panel is bad.

Because we've seen it hundreds of times and it is always a bad panel (so far I believe without a single exception.) You could rule out your ribbon problem by swapping the two ribbons over. (Do NOT connect left to right, but just swap the cables on both sides.) However, I doubt they are the fault.

When you unplugged one half, you removed whatever was faulty on one half of the panel that was loading a signal line down. (read: shorting an important signal.) I am not sure what exactly is failing, but it is probably one of the driver ICs on that part of the panel.

Modern LED-LCD TVs have shockingly high rates of panel failure. Next to open-circuit LED (a bloody difficult one to fix!), it seems to be the most common fault (...one of the reasons I prefer fixing plasmas.)

I bet this TV has Samsung (S-LCD) or AU Optronics panel.

may be VGH-VGL voltage problem there.

                    pls. post T-con pic.

I don't know what anmol wants you to test but I'd suggest supplying the T-con picture for them.

I had a "noisy" picture issue caused by VGL fault (T-con), however it was completely different to yours, and mine was the same regardless of the ribbons (noisy picture either way.)

It's a voltage on the T-con board, marked by a test point VGL or VOFFE.

Should measure around -5V to -10V (black on chassis, red on test point)

Re: kdl-40nx723 e double image help please

Is VOFFE negative? Does it change with the ribbons one at a time, or both in? If that is OK, then it rules out a VGL problem on the T-con board (so it probably is not a T-con problem but panel related.)

On these newer panels there usually aren't bonds down the side of the screen, they are now built into the glass (which should be more reliable, time will tell.)
