Problem with Samsung UN55ES6150F - Wont power up, 10 standby blinks

Hello Badcaps! Ive seen some awesome posts with detailed info on some Samsung panels, hopefully I can get the below issue sorted with your pro help!

Ive got a Samsung UN55ES6150F panel that is no longer working after a lightning storm in my area. I ordered a new BN44-00503A off Ebay expecting the power board to be the culprit, but am still getting 10 blinks from the standby light (5 groups of 2). Who knows, possibly a bad board from an Ebay seller, not sure.

Ive got pics below of the relevant model info, and the 3 boards inside the unit.

I am equipped with a voltmeter so should be able to pull readings or check continuity as needed.

Any help is appreciate to get this panel back online!

Good chance it's the main board at fault. If not, could be a shorted LCD panel (unrepairable) or bad LED strip (hard to repair)

Try removing the T-con board connector (it's the thin wide black one going to the bottom of the panel) and seeing if the TV powers on (no picture will appear.) Also try removing the connector between the main board and power board - do you get a backlight on the screen with the TV plugged in?

      thanks for the post Tom!

i pulled the ribbon to the t-con board, no change. I pulled the cable between the power board and the main, and the backlight instantly comes on as soon as power is applied. appears the power board is indeed operable.

would this indicate a fault with the t-con or the main board?

I am going to go with bad mainboard. But check your voltages anyway to make sure they are all normal.

you guys were absolutely correct, it was an issue with the mainboard. i ordered a working unit off ebay, installed today and the tv powered right up.

now to test the original PSU to see if the new one i bought can be resold!

          thanks for everyones help!

Thank you for the awesome reply to the poster about his issue... It happened to be the same as mine and the same trick worked the backlights came on instantly when I unplugged the cord from the mainboard to the t-conboard!

              Hello,

Sorry about reviving an old thread and all that but it's the only half-useful thing that's come up in my searches.

I've got this same TV and my power light blinks 10 times (5 groups of 2) as mentioned by the OP. If I follow the above troubleshooting step (disconnect cable between power and main boards) my back light does Not illuminate. Would this indicate the power supply is the culprit? I haven't got a multimeter but a visual inspection revealed no swollen / bad looking caps or signs of overheating.

As a possibly humorous aside, I attempted to get tech support from Samsung which went basically like this: "Unplug the tv and wait 30 seconds. Plug it back in. Any change? Ok, please plug it directly into the wall instead of your power strip. Any change? Ok, please try using a different power cord for the TV. Don't have one? Ok, please remove the batteries from the remote control. Put them back in and press Menu and go down to System - Oh, you don't have any picture at all? Sorry, I misunderstood the entire reason why you were calling. Here, call this number, it's for an independent repair shop in New Jersey."

              I live in Connecticut.

It will be best if you upload good clear pictures of the whole backside of the TV and the boards, that will be a good start.

OK, you will need to get the meter so you can find out if the power supply/LED driver board is getting the correct command signal from the main board or not.
But at this point you MAY have the problem with the power supply board because you are not getting the backlights when the cable between the power supply and main board is discoonected.
You need to find out if the DCV on the two legs of the main filter (the big cap laying on its side) has >360VDC when the power supply board is running by itself, this boosted Voltage is needed for the backlight LED driver to operate. This also does not mean you do not have problem with the LED either since LED failure in LED backlights TV are very common failure.
We also need to deal with blinking LED also which can be due to the problem in the main board.
Do you know the history of this TV, are you the original owner? Was it hit by surge or lighting?

Wow, thanks much for the quick reply, I'll borrow my dad's meter and check what you recommended.

As for history I'm the original owner. We did have two power outages today, so some surges may have accompanied them but that was almost 7 hours prior to the time of failure. Always been plugged into a Belkin surge protector, for whatever that's worth.

Main filter VDC is steady at 390v with the main board disconnected. Also tested what I assume is the LED Backlight harness which showed .8v on the two "R+" leads when grounded to the chassis, but saw no voltage between R+ and R-, nor between L+ and L-, or L+ and chassis ground.

                        What else should I test?

Any suggestions for testing whether or not the power supply/LED driver board is getting the correct command signal from the main?

edit: Found this link, and although it's a different manufacturer and board layout I feel I can probably use it to test my power supply: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUvclBfaMXg

Bump - please, help, it's day 3 and I was totally unprepared for the descent into madness I'm experiencing without my TV.

This picture is of the connector on the power supply for the harness between the power supply and main board. The pinout diagram is to the right. The youtube link I posted above mentions shorting out a couple pins in order to turn on the rest of them so that I may test voltages but because of the differences between the COBY in the video and my Samsung I'm unable to tell which two pins to short.

My plug is dual row and very tight quarters. It's hard to get anything in there at all.

As you look at your picture, you can see pin 1 on the right side of the connector, all the exposed terminal that you can see from the top side of the board are for the ODD NUMBER pi, so the next pin to the left of pin 1 are 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13. The other are for EVEN NUMBER pin. So you need to look at pin 6 which is the backlights ON pin, you can use small sewing needle to stick into the socket to get the reading.

I get which row is odd and even, I just need to know which two pins to short to turn on the rest of them as per the video link I posted. Granted, I don't even know that my Samsung is supposed to work the same way.

Anyway when testing each pin to chassis ground the only one that registers is Pin 12: A5V, and I get ~5.2v.

By the way I went ahead and ordered a new input/logic board. Kind of a shot in the dark. I also asked ShopJimmy.com for help but in spite of their claims of excellent customer service they refused to help me just because their automated tech support service is currently in development which I guess takes up all their time.

Lets fine out first to know if the BL-ON signal is present or not, we know that the PS-ON is present because we do have >360VDC on the main cap.

With the main board harness plugged in and getting a reading off of a needle jammed in the back side of harness @ Pin 6 I read 0.0v to any connector ground or chassis ground.

That is when the TV is powered on right? If that is the case, then he main board is not sending the BL-ON, then the next thing you must do is to remove the wire from pin 6, no need to use any resistor because the board has built-in pull-up resistor.

Unfortunately there is no "on" anymore. As soon as power is applied (with the main board plugged in) the standby LED blinks an error code (5 groups of 2 blinks) and the set does not respond to commands either by remote or the power button. I tested Pin6 twice, the second time to make sure nothing happened when I pressed the power button. Same result both times.

What will pulling the Pin6 wire accomplish? I should be able to easily de-pin that wire from the connector.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

The laptop initially presented graphic issues and driver failure (Code 43) for the GPU.

After preventive maintenance (cleaning, thermal paste, etc.), it powered on normally. We disassembled it again to inspect the GPU, reassembled...

I have a Sceptre U550CV-UMRD8POTV83BB 4K LED (this is a dumb tv) that I bought new in August 2021, so It's just completed 3 years.

I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board
