    tw2005,
To check the power supply and the backlights on your set with the 428b power supply, you need to follow the instructions in the quick start guide for the 6900 posted by Toms66.

Just use the forum search box above and search for a post with "quick start guide 6900" and you will get right to that post. Basically you unplug the main board from the ps board, but then you have to jumper the 5V (or ground I forget which) to the PWM_ON pins to check each set of back lights in turn.

If the backlights turn on using this procedure with the mainboard unplugged, but still do not work with the mainboard plugged in, then yes you have a bad mainboard.

    Good luck!

thanks, I'll have a look and get back when I have updates. i found a manual download but the section for fault finding was corrupted in the zip file. have not found an alternate but i'll have a dig for that fasttrack. i think I have quickly glossed over it and I thought it suggested the backlights simply stay on with the main removed but I may have missed that 5v jumper so I better have a closer read.

I still have some of these leds if anyone is interested in trying to replace them individually. If so shoot me a PM.

          On the money.

I have a set with no obvious LED failures but I'm leaning towards bad solder joints / fractures.

No and no. But you're right.

I have to take my hat off to you though. Pulling these panels apart and fixing these takes more skill than i have.

I have managed to get this running. Been on 9 hours straight now.

The Tv is butchered somewaht though, finger prints and debris under the panel so it has flaws but still very viewable.

I'm not going back in there, what I've done is jumpered the first 6 LEDs on the right banks and one on the left.

Had no idea these fitted in a very narrow opening and got damaged which explains why we had a sudden fault state change.

I don't know how you reassemble this but we're probably going about it wrong

Anyway after 6 gos and some damage it's back and running. Not sure how it's going to go in the long run. I did expect either it to fault or burn out with 6 missing in series.

I looked at the backlights SJ had for a US D7000, neither look like mine .

I should have taken a photo but they are mounted a 90 deg to the borad assembly.

Are the LEDs you had are they SMD flat or have the solder pads on their sides?

Nice picture though and sound. I'd have to say in general better the my FHD plasma in most cases. Sluggish controls.

I have a UN46C7000WFXZA 3D panel with a strange LED anomaly going on at the bottom of the screen. Panel works fine otherwise and its not terribly noticeable unless its on a bight colored scene.

Are these strips hard to change out?

Well got 12hrs out of it, back to clicking. top bank of LEDs out, no surprise, was hopefull.

Such a damn watste that they make Tvs with no durability or ability to service. penny parts killing a very expensive tv.

Yup I wondered why they didnt put these in an "access slot" or otherwise serviceable area. They are designed to be chucked in a landfill and not repaired. Oh the criminality lol.

Mine was the D6000 it had a strip down each side with surface mount leds on it.

Yeah, mine has a flat bracket, leds mounted vertical, yours has them mounted flat on a vertical, yours would be somewhat repairable, no chance with mine and I doubt your setup would fit in this.

yes the led's are garbage in this series.
i have fixed them by replacing all 200 of them at once.
phillips lumileds 5630 at 7500k work fine.
the first one i did i wound up with 6000k and had to do some tweaking to get color right.
btw everyone who saw that set liked its picture the best of any they looked at.
you may also need to tweak the led driver adjustment on the power supply.

How did you remove all the old LEDs? Soldered them in place for heat sinking? Jumpered out the bad traces? Just wondering. I had bad LED strips and it was almost impossible to remove the LEds . It took a long time to do just one LED Got any Pics? There are pots to adjust the LED drivers? What does it actually adjust? Thanks

                          hot plate to desolder.
clean up pads with wick, carefully apply paste, reheat on plate to solder.

have you come across any 5030 LEDs which are vertically mounted(pads on their side)?

Where do you get the 7500K lumileds? I only see 6500K at digikey and mouser.

I'm impressed with your hot plate rework of all 200 LEDs. That is hard core.

Do you have much longevity data on the lumileds in this application?

                                    Hello all,

                                    Anyone still following this thread?

I striped the UE55D7000 panel apart and I found two LED strips, one on the left and another on the right.

The strips are like tw2005 described, a metal plate wit a LED strip glue on it. The LEDs are mounted vertical on the strip. See picture attached.

Anyway I found one LED with bad solder (joint fracture) on the right strip, and it fall off when I touch it. All other LEDs seam in place and working fine when tested individually with the multimeter.
I tried to solder the one that fall off, but like tw2005 said it is no easy as solder must be applied between the LED and the strip...

Well, not my best job, but it should be enough to keep LED in place.

Still have to assemble all together and see if the problem is solved or not...

Any help finding replacement strips or LEDs would be appreciated...

                                    Merry Christmas,

conspiracy most likely, could the people that run these tv companies possibly think we will buy the same brand after the tv goes belly up, JUST out of warranty?

I had similar problem with led panel. Replaced a broken LED on the end of the strip with another LED from strip light. Panes lights now but still restarting every few seconds. Think problem is in power board. Have already replaced all Electrolytic caps but still no success.
