    Samsung LE40A85651M vertical lines issue

    * Can a mod delete my other thread. After reading the rules i tried adding the model number to title but it would not edit.

    -------------

Hi guys, have a Samsung LE40A85651M that has an issue with vertical lines. The problem is the following:

When i turn the TV on it displays vertical coloured lines that completely cover the screen. After a while (times vary) these lines vanish and are replaced with either:
    • The picture then being displayed with faint lines
    • Half the picture being displayed with the other half covered with the vertical lines that cover the screen

    Example below:

    Video of entire startup process:

I've checked for blown caps and there doesn't seem to be any. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? All help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

Photos of the insides of your panel of each board as clear as you can, this looks like a gamma chip failure as well as a possible tab bond/panel failure.

Do a power off, mute 1,8,2 power on to access the service menu and find the test patterns and run them and see if the lines persist.

(when in the service menu DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING) with out writing the original setting down first, Test patterns are excluded but any other settings once changed are permanent until you change them again.

What happens when you turn down the contrast?

          Hi, thanks for the reply.

Can't seem to gain access to the service menu. I've tried various methods (speed and timing wise) but still unable to get into the service mode.

Please find images attached below. I've taken a few in order to get the clearest pics possible for you.

Tom, Dang, i've turned the contrast down lower and the lines do indeed disappear. That said turning down the contrast does not remove the faint lines completely, when i access the menu or change channels the lines reappear on the graphics that pop up, then disappear again when the graphic does also. Also, on startup the amount of thick lines (pic 1) vary and sometimes they cover half the screen, sometimes just a third and so on, turning the contrast lower does not seem get rid of these lines.

For me (based on my experience with 3-4 LE4xA65x Tvs):
              90% failing display
              5% faulty tcon
              5% other.
This is the notorious-shiny-full-hd-samsung display, isnt it?

                Thanks for the reply.

How would i go about troubleshooting this issue and finding out what exactly the problem in the set is? I know you've stated that there is a huge probability that it is a failing display problem but how can i narrow it down to be absolutely certain that it is? Other than purchasing replacement panels.

Try connecting only 3 or 2 of the ribbons. You may get controversial results but thats more for statistics.

Strange LG TV issue : Image vertical lines in black screen
                    by Ancient1
                    Hi

                    Asking for a friend.

I'm used to black vertical line in otherwise good image - probable solution is a rubber to push and tighten the COFs bonding.
but here its the opposite !

TV has new T-con = same issue
A missing panel voltage would have global effect

So , what should one do ? how can I find where the fault is ?

                    Thanks !...

I posted about this previously but didn't get any response, and I have some troubleshooted a bit so I have more info.

The screen is full of horizontal "gaps" or lines that distort the picture badly, and after about 10 seconds of powering it on the screen starts to fill with red vertical bars that take on the horizontal pattern. After the screen filled with the red bars, they instantly vanished and then slowly started to reappear. I initially thought it was tab bonding failure, but after getting down to them and pressing each one I find zero change in the picture. I went...

Thin stable coloured vertical lines on Samsung UN65NU6900FXZC come and go
                    by polaro
                    Greetings,

I've bought a used Samsung UN65NU6900FXZC LED TV. It worked fine for some time and then developed, at first, a single very thin (1 pixel) vertical stable blue line, from top to bottom, close to the left edge of the screen. Now it's 3 lines on the left. When I connect HDMI sources the number of the thin lines grow. After disconnecting and cold discharging I am back to 2 lines. The lines disappear at a rate of 15-20 minutes per line. So it does not look like a damaged LED panel. Any advice? Thanks...

LCD SAMSUNG LE40A656A1CXXE - Vertical Lines on Half of The Screen?
                    by ItalianSat
                    Hello Everybody,

I have a 40 inch LCD SAMSUNG LE40A656A1CXXE. Its problem is that there are Vertical Lines on Right Half of The Screen.

Interestingly enough, when I move my mouse (in the case if connected to a PC) or when I am watching the TV, lines also move. At first appearance, I had thought that the problem might arose from loose vertical ribbons (COF), but when I opened up the TV for further investigations, I realized that the problem cannot be solved by touching them.

Moreover, I detached the T-CON board for a new round of investigation. I personally...
