    Hitachi P50V701 (possible buffer issue)

    Hello!

I have a chance to get this unit super cheap, the seller said it needed a new buffer board and didn't specify upper or lower. I will ask when I see it.

question is, I know these Hitachi plasma's can be a pain in the neck to deal with, this one is a 1920x1080 resolution and seems to be a pretty decent panel.

I have only dealt with one Hitachi and didn't have to do anything to it other then move it around

    Thanks!

Yeah these models have known problems with blowing buffer boards, where at least two of the buffer ICs fail. The boards are pretty expensive and even the individual buffer ICs are $15 a piece.

Just talked to the seller, Bottom half is dead. If I get it I will do the norm and post photos of the guts.

      Thanks Glitcher!

Would this be the correct lower buffer board?

        I don't see a JP60806 just JP6080.

So I decided agesnt buying this unit. I got to the sellers place and it was already taken apart (just the back off) and I asked if he could turn it on. The screen lit up for a second with Raster then shut down and the blue LED blinked 3 times I believe.

I was a little discouraged but still mildly interested untill he told me he took the upper scan drive board and flipped it over and put it on the bottom vice versa for the lower scan drive board and told me the screen would show the bottom and not the top.

I am pretty sure those are marked U and D for a reason after that I told him I will pass and walked out.

My guess since he did that the 3 blinks was a Ysus fault blink and he blew that too but I also read that bad buffer boards cause 3 blinks as well. I dunno if it was worth the risk at 30 bucks.

I have just bought an Hitachi plasma too, I had the three blinks which could of been one of three or four things, it turned out to be the bottom buffer board which had blown, I simply removed it and turned the Tv on, it showed the top half of the picture so Y-main probably good.

Yeah usually three blinks means one of the buffers are bad and is preventing it from starting up. Was a good price for $30! These hitachi parts are pretty expensive, even the psu. I usually buy broken sets for $50-150.. $150 if I'm 90% sure of the problem. And would at least make $100 profit.

True, I have 21 panels sitting in my garage and 3 in my man cave. As much as I want to save this Tachi I dont need another money pit plasma

I sent him a text saying if the other interested party doesn't come though let me know.

I really need to get these Panny and Sammy plasma panels fixed and get them tanks outta my cave!

You pay a lot Glitcher. I have lowered my buy price for plasma given it's harder to sell now that it's a dying tech, as much as I love it!

I don't pay much either but I get them from sources that get them for free.

                    27-42 4.99
                    42-55 9.99
                    55+ 14.99

I get to set my own price with in reason, I have paid more then 14.99 for some higher end sets but for the most part 9.99 is my average and I don't mind that.

Private party is a whole different ball of wax, I don't usually deal in private party due to most wanting top dollar for broken crap.

                    But I have bought a few 25-60.

Yeah, there's not much here that people sell anymore and when there is something cheap, usually someone else has got to it first or i'll just have to offer a higher price for it to get it...

If I know that its an easy fix I'll easily pay $100 for a 50" Samsung plasma and can resell it at least $300. Eventually someone will buy but it all just depends how well its advertised.

My biggest fear with paying a lot is if I do put time into fixing it and the screen finally comes on and there are lines, voids and other junk that cannot be fixed is getting money back on parts.

Plus the risk of selling parts on ebay with shady buyers messing em up and trying to say the part you sold them is broken and demanding a refund blah blah

So I usally take my DOA panels to a guy down south who hooks me up with parts I need no charge since I give him panels that have good parts. Its a win win.

Yeah that's usually a problem. I'm actually extremely cautious when purchasing. I have to assume that everyone is lieing and I ask them questions and see how they react.

If it's cheap enough and you know you could get your money back on parts, then it's not a problem. Plasma Tvs for me are more of a risk as you don't know if there's any screen burn and it could be quite bad, that said the above Hitachi was only £30 so worth the punt.

Hi,I have done 4 of these hitachi 50" plasmas and they all had the same MO
where the 2 main caps in the power supply go bad and they take out the buffer
boards....I never had the y main fail just the buffer boards.....but be aware these buffer boards are very hard to come by and you may have have a set
rebuilt or replace the chip(s) yourself.

Seller still has it, I just got 2 more plasma panals I am holding for a friend till he can get back up on his feet from a severe arm injury.

Here is the bottom buffer removed out of the circuit, panel powers on but there are lots of horizontal lines on the top half of the screen so the top buffer looks bad too?

                                  Repairable or parts pig?

Reseat the ribbons on the buffers, they are pretty tricky and usually is the problem with this model when the buffers are replaced.

I have a Hitachi Plasma 55HDX99 that the top half of the screen had vertical lines. One day the tv didn't start up no sound nothing worked. It sounded like it was trying to power up but didn't. Pulled off cover, the night ridder lights all blinked in sequence and turned off. I pulled the upper buffer board and the Tv started up and the bottom half of screen was perfect/ the upper was black. Put the upper back in and the TV wouldn't start and had 8 blinking blue lights. Is the upper buffer just bad or could it be more?
