Hello to all, as described in the title and as seen in the pics, I have this vertical line running half way up my screen, I am hoping it is just a loose or bad connection and not the panel itself, sorry about the bad quality pics, there is no actual ghosting of the line, infact everything else works perfect except the 10 odd pixel width line running half way up the screen, as you can see it is not a uniform color, more like static where it does appear to get brighter and dimmer depending on what else is on the screen but that may just be the tv

    your thoughts ??

    Re: Panasonic TH-P50VT20A vertical line

could be a panel issue, maybe C board, bad connection.
    Try this.

    Power the TV on.

While pressing the “VOLUME -”(down) button of the main unit, press the “INFO” button
of the remote control three times within 2 seconds.

This will put it in service mode.

    On the remote
press the 1 button on remote to scroll through the menu till you get to "option"

Press 3 or 4 to select “MIRROR”.
Press the VOLUME up or down button to change the Mirror’s data.
Data = 00 is the default data (Mirror feature is off)
Data = 01 The picture is flipped 180° horizontally.
Data = 02 The picture is flipped 180° vertically

See if that line stays in the same or moves. If it stays where it is then I'm thinking panel,C board or bad connection on the ribbon on the c board that lines up with that line.

Don't remove those ribbons while it's on or operate without the heatsink bolted down. If the IC that's embedded on the ribbon cooks then the panel is no good although that may be what has actually failed anyway.

        Re: Panasonic TH-P50VT20A vertical line

cheers for the replies, had a little bit of a tinker today

so I pulled 2 ribbons at the bottom where the line was (and screwed the heatsinks back on) and got this

        https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1405337311

then I pulled a side ribbon and showed this

        https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...1&d=1405337769

so I am guessing it is the panel , i guess i can put up with it for a while, I still have a projector to watch movies on

        cheers again

Did you mean to have the same link twice for the photo? Same photo for side ribon pulled?

Did you get into srv mode and try the mirror flips?

I don't know what to make of the fact the line is still there with ribbons either side diconnected? I would have expected that section to blank out.

            Re: Panasonic TH-P50VT20A vertical line

yeah I stuffed up the pics but i thought I fixed it before anyone saw

And yes I had already gone into service mode and flipped and inverted the screen and the line stayed in exactly the same place

I too thought it would have blacked out, i pulled 2 ribbons as i was not sure which one it was, when the line stayed there i figured it must be the screen... then again I know very little about plasmas and how they work

I know there are buffers across the top of the panel in this but yeah, I'm not sure if they could cause that.

              Panel is most likely.

I'm wondering, what if the bottom ribbons were put back and then disconnect the opposing ones at the top and see what happens there?

I think the reason you still see the lines is parasitic power is being taken from the rest of the panel and powering the bad driver.

So, are you thinking from the upper C boards?

                      That, or the adjacent bonds.

I assumed the buffers across the top controlled the top half of the screen, and the ones across the bottom controlled the bottom half, maybe I should have disconnected the top ribbon and checked to see what happened.... ??

                        edit ... i type too slow ..

Such a shame, hope my V20 keeps on trucking.

Q for ITSA, do you know how to go into srv tool and get it to display the total runtime for the TV?

Just curious to know how many hrs since I have a 2010 V20

I did check it today, from memory it was about 6400hrs, and turned on and off 800 odd times, I will double check for you though

No, that good enough. I think mine is still under 4000hrs

ok just checked, 4660 hours turned on 2300 odd times, plus i believe this tv has been like this for a while, I just picked it up cheap to temporarily replace mine which broke... but in hope I could fix the line

                                  Re: Panasonic TH-P50VT20A vertical line

Reality check. try 9094hrs, 2875 cycles.

only had 2500hrs when I got it dead. 14 months

I guess 6500hrs since last Sc board fail, makes you wonder why they fail so early in the first place.

Must be my 2nd TV that still has about 4000hrs. It lost a Sc around 2-3000hrs too.

                                  .

So yours had digital red and blue blocks across the screen?

                                      My Kuro - 12,700 hours
                                      Done a PZ80 with 15,000 hours
                                      No stuck lines

Luck of the draw really, it's a lot rarer on some models (very rare on Kuros; infrequent on PZ80s; frequent on PZ70s & G10s, and Samsung A400 plasmas.)

which one ?? this current one has just the vertical line , I guess you can say it is made up of digital red and blue pixles, and white and black and green also, it does change a bit depending on the back ground of the rest of the screen

my last tv was a P50VT10A , previous model but broke the screen due to falling over
