samsung LNT3253HX/X44 NO SOUND NO PICTURE should i buy it?

I have a guy selling me this set for $20

he says when he plugged it in, it made a "fizzle sound and no picture came on
But the red standby light does come but that's it


is it worth fixing?
should I buy it or stay away?

I did see a post on here for the same model tv but the guy was lucky and it was a loose connection and the tv started to work again

Are you planning on keeping it or flipping it? 20.00 bucks + what ever the cost to repair might be, all depends on what your plans are for it when you are done.

Keep in mind for resale its only 1366 x 768 720p not that its a bad thing but you can get a newer 32" LED 1080p for around 200 or so.

If you plan on keeping it then 20.00 bucks + parts is nothing if it can be saved. Just use a LED flashlight to check for cracks in the screen.

Could be anything really, get it and pop the back off and take photos of every board in the panel, post them here and someone will try and help/guide you through it.

Google and YouTube are your friends for most Samsung panels though quite a few have cap failures on the power supply.

I've bought several this past year for the same reason. You won't find a better $20 gamble, I say. A quick look at that part number on eBay shows mainboards as low as $25 and so on, so even if a component-level fix can't be made the different boards themselves wouldn't set you back very much.

I just checked ebay and there are several main and inverter boards for sale under $30

im hoping its a simple component I can replace but I guess we will see tomorrow
