can the service manual be totally wrong?

and what difference does the BN make, if any?

ok heres the datasheet...but where does it say which pins to jump to reset it?

all i found is this bit of mysticism

"MEMORY RESET: After an interruption in protocol, power
loss or system reset, any 2-wire part can be reset by following
these steps: (a) Clock up to 9 cycles, (b) look for SDA
high in each cycle while SCL is high and then (c) create a
start condition as SDA is high"

is there a general theory that works for all eeprom chips? like connect ground to vcc or connect vcc to SDA or whatever?

thanks yeah i watched that already. he doesnt explain how he knows which pins to short..and this is not the same tv or chip that i have...

Maybe tom could chime in, that sounds like greek to me and a most unhelpful datasheet. Ive never had to reset a samsung before, but I think that info on the datasheet may be referring to using a programmer to reset the eeprom.

Yea its gotta be something like that. I've seen in other Samsung threads that it is pin 5 and 6 but I want to know why before I go shorting the wrong pins if my chip is different

You will hold the SDA pin high, just to be safe, I would use 100 Ohms resistor connected to VCC to limit the current in case you accidentally short the VCC to ground.

You should really verify for sure you have the correct EEPROM.

I did quick search and it list EEPROM is 24C02 and 24c256. I would say the 24C02 is more likely the one.

and according to the datasheet pin4 is GND and pin5 is SDA pin 8 is vcc...

so 2 ways to do it, short SDA to GND or short SDA to VCC

shorting to VCC is what you mean by holding it high?

"shorting to VCC is what you mean by holding it high?" That is, HIGH means the logic high so connecting SDA to VCC (through resistor for safety) will pull the SDA pin high. There are steps when you suppose to hold it high and let go or something like that, so read that link and watch that video again.
Shorting SDA to ground is forcing the SDA pin to LO.

Well I tried to do this a bunch of times with no success...I think the problem is that as soon as I plug in thr tv it tries to turn on and it doesnt respond to the power button after that. It just flashes the red light 5 times and a long pause over and over... The instructions say to hold sda to vcc and then power on the set. Wait 20 seconds then release and turn off the set. I can't do this. All I can do is plug in or unplug the set

and wouldnt you know it but i got ANOTHER one of these TV's today...or so i thought. when i opened it up i noticed the PSU looked the same but the motherboard, TCON, inverter, and i assume the panel as well are all different.
and although the psu looks identical, it has a different model number!
way to keep me on my toes, samsung!

apparently this is the W model of this TV...
anyway im pretty sure it needs a new tcon cause the image is solarized a bit. im not sure if i want to sink money into a new tcon for this thing though because the screen has a fair amount of scratches and i might not be able to sell it for much. might be worth more as parts.
but then i was thinking what if i could swap the parts into the other TV? the connections look like they would work..but do i run any risk of damaging parts by doing this?

Have you changed the capacitor of psu? It seems that this models have some problems with their power supply.

neither of the PSU's has any trouble lighting the backlights so i dont think this is my issue...i since making that post did do a fair amount of swapping and found that the parts are compatible. you have to use some wires to get the small connector on the inverter to work with the difference size clip but they are basically the same i guess. one PSU puts out 12v and the other puts out 13v so i guess its close enough. i was trying to make a dollar out of 55 cents here but i guess i need a few more nickels. with any luck ill run into more of these TV's...
