Toshiba 42XV505DB faulty mains power switch

Interesting one here - mains power switch works OK but you have to hold it in for it to work! If it's released it will turn off immediately.

For now, I just bridged switch, to disable it, but would be interested if anyone knows of a replacement switch part # or board. The board is PE0533H but that is going for £27+ on eBay which is excessive for a power switch. I guess it's a common fault.

    foto?
if it's a mains push-switch like on old tube tv's then Tidman or Grandata will have them.

Hmm £POA though... will ask them.

Don't mind putting a few quid into it, was only £33 on eBay.

Seller said faulty power switch... I was thinking power supply or something, but nope... first time someone was dead right about a switch being bad.

i cant see it properly in the ebay pic - they are selling an assembly.
can you desolder the switch & post a pic - i may even have one.

TV is currently undergoing test (playing Avatar @ 100% backlight) so will do that at another time.

Yes that's an assembly. But it looks identical to Vince's switch as linked. I am going to look on CPC too.

you know why they fail dont you,
people switch the tv off at night,
the daily arc as they switch it on/off burns the contacts because there is no supression cap.

i used to replace a lot of switches on large sony & philips tv's because of this.

you should warn the customer to leave it in standby at night and not be throwing the switch when they go to bed.

Yep - there is nearly no point to this switch anyway.

Power consumption of a TV in standby legally limited to not exceed 0.5W.
                            TV running = 220W

This means that leaving it on for just 1 hour is equivalent to over 440 hours of standby usage.

                            The cost of 1 year's standby usage = £0.57 (4380Wh, 4.38kWh, £0.13/kWh)

Person I bought it off said the switch has been replaced before at a cost of £70, he just got frustrated with it after it broke again.

                              £70 for a switch?
someone did well - what a rippoff.
it's shit like that that causes people to not get stuff fixed.

i think i would have charged £40 or less.

I would charge £20 if I disabled switch (bridging it, if customer decides they are OK without it), £35 to replace it. This is a refurb job though - buy 'em dead, fix them and sell them.

Also, the "new" switch had an Emos' TV part# sticker on it, so it wasn't even new, it was probably an already worn mains power switch...

In the old CRT days I used to solder a 1.0mF 250v ceramic cap across the switch to reduce arcing and now I recommend a power strip with the little red switch to take of power in the night or when not at home to prevent power on issues that may develop if there is a surge or something.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

My board has a single row of header pins for all the front panel stuff (have seen others where they are grouped together differently so thats no help) and the two pins for the power on switch had been previously repaired and I am trying to make a better repair. There looks to be pad and trace damage and im happy to relocate the header pin/pins to...

                                    Hello,

I've been working on a NEC TurboExpress and I accidentally got the plastic inside the power ON/OFF switch too hot while doing other repairs and melted it. At first, it would still power on when sliding the switch, but you had to really press inward while sliding to get it to work.

I removed the switch component and tried to gently melt the plastic back so it would work more reliably and all I managed to do was make it worse.

I need to find a replacement On/OFF switch for this, but having some trouble figuring out which kind of switch I need....

Ever since we've moved in, we would sometimes see strange power-cycling behavior. For example:

                                    • TV would turn off and the LED light would blink for a while (over a minute sometimes) until eventually it went back to a regular off state and could be turned on
                                    • Sometimes it would require disconnecting the mains cord from the TV, waiting several minutes, then putting it back in and turning the TV back on. This had limited

                                    Hi guys,

So, I've been racking my brains on this one.

                                    I have a Satellite C50-A which I'm repairing for a friend.

I recently replaced the main board due to failure.

Following this, absolutely everything works perfectly, except for the fact it won't power down.
