LG 60PS80 cable is I op

    Good Evening,

I have been searching for technical information about my 4.5 year old LG 60PS80. It has been working fine and after a storm the cable stopped working. I switched out a known good cable box but still nothing, no picture or sound. I tried power cycling and still nothing. If I run the "Wei" on it and both the audio and picture work fine. I'm coachable but I am not an electronics person but come here asking humbly for help.

    Regards,

    Greg

Not fully understanding the US "cable box " arrangement, how does the cable box work and connect to the TV to produce video & sound? that is, what ports does it use, RCA, HDMI, etc?

What was the Wii hooked up to?

The "Wei" is a game played using a CD player that is connected via an HDMI cable just as the cable companies box is. The cable box is used for selecting and viewing tv programs.

ok, so both are connected to the TV via HDMI. was the Wii connected to the same HDMI port as the cable box would have been?

If that port worked and you then tried a known working cable box on the same port, that's baffling to me.

Have you got other TVs to test the cale boxes on?

Yes, I have 3 other TV's working fine in other rooms of the house. This problem is specific to this tv.

Have you plugged the cable box into the same port (HDMI) as the wii? If it doesn't work there you have a bad cable box or splitter.

So I plugged connected the cable box and tv with HDMI component cables and I now have a picture but no sound. Does that help in any way from a diagnostic perspective ?

And none of the HDMI ports work at all.

That makes sense, it is possible that the power surge damaged your HDMI ports. Unfortunately the only fix will be to replace the main board or get it repaired.

Would you be able to tell me the cost of the main board.

                    Product # 60PS80

                    Serial # 912RMHR041873

                    Thanks in advance,

                    Greg

Certainly an unusual one, if Wii works 100% ok on the HDMI, but another device does not.

You will need to open your TV up and read off the EBR and/or EAX numbers from the main board, as these TVs have different boards installed sometimes.

Cool, now it makes a whole lot of sense.

May I assume your quoting the cost of the part depending on the specific board in this tv ?

Typically a main board directly from LG is about $300 to $400 which is frankly stupid money, given you could get a new 60" for about twice that.

You may however be able to find a used main board (pull from a scrap TV) for about $100 to $200. Maybe even less, you don't know for sure until we get part numbers.

To be sure, we need those EAX/EBR numbers.

I'm half guessing, based on no part number provided. I assumed you had a cost since you asked if anyone wanted to have a guess.

However, if it turns out to be ebt60722602 then I found nothing used so they're new prices from various searches.

Hope you have some luck given those crazy prices.

So if I was going to scrap this repair project and buy a new 60" what type and manufacturer would you purchase ?
