PN42A400C2D: Turns on but no picture

After lurking these forum for a few days and not being able to find a solution to my issue, I am starting a thread and including as much information as possible.

My Samsung PN42A400c2d does not display an image. When the power button is pressed, I here a relay click once and then power light begins to blink for a few seconds before becoming solid. During this time, the start up noise is heard but no image appears on the screen nor does the backlight power on.

On the inside, LED 1 briefly turns on before going out while LED 2 blinks until the the unit is powered off. Following other threads, I have checked the VS and VA voltages and found them to be right in the range of 207 and 54 plus/minus 2V, respectively, using a multimeter. Additionally, all of the fuses seem to be in working order. I have also confirmed that I can heard sound from inputs, specifically HDMI.

Originally, I thought my issue was a bad Y main and buffer so I replaced them both but have had no luck. The only weird thing that I have not been able to find anyone else having is there is a sound which I believe to be coming from the Y Main. It is a slight hum, very similar to the sound of fluorescent lights which occurs about ever 3/4 of a second and repeats the entire time while the unit is on. This sound is present when using both the old and replacement Y Main boards. I can get a video if it would be helpful to you.

At this point, I can't seem to find anyone else having these same issues so hopefully I can find help here as these forums and its users seem excellent in troubleshooting. I've attached images of all of the boards but do not see and bulging capacitors or any other visually identifiable images.

Thanks in advance and I will try to be as timely as possible with my responses to your suggestions!

    Can you try this test?

There was no difference. No image appeared on the screen, I still got the boot up sound, and the Y Main board still made the same humming sound every 3/4 seconds.

OK, that's correct. Leave it like that for now...

Top right of the Y-main point marked VSCAN. Check voltage on here, same way as you checked Vs and Va.

Re: PN42A400C2D: Turns on but no picture

I'm getting a fair amount of fluctuation (though this may be the result of using a really cheap multimeter). At first touch, I get a reading of -180V which drops down and then bounces around somewhere near -165V to -170V. It is rather tough to tell exactly where though because sometimes it looks like it drops to 150V very briefly.

This was done leaving everything exactly as was with the jumper on and LVDS off.

OK, can you now disconnect the Y-buffer board connected to the Y-main and repeat the test?

Repeating the test with the Y buffer removed, the VSCAN voltage now sits at a very steady -201V. Also, the humming sound coming from the Y Main is gone.

Okay so I did exactly what the video showed and it appears the Y Buffer is toast. I get continuity beeps in a few places on the connectors. I also tested the old Y Buffer and found the same thing though the shorts were located in different places.

From here, do you think I should replace just the Y Buffer or the Y Main as well? Is there a way to test the Y Main or do the tests done so far say anything about its condition? I originally purchased them as a combo from eBay but as the Y Buffer is defective, I will be contacting the seller.

When purchasing the Y Buffer (and Main if you believe it to be necessary), should I get them from a site like shopjimmy.com?

Thanks so much for all of your help!

Check the panel very carefully for cracks, especially around the chips that are failed (so for example the top chip drives the top 1/8th of the screen, if you find shorts there, check there.) If you find a crack the panel is toast.

Note that in that video, I pulled the board from a TV that worked, and naively assumed it would be OK initially, but then saw the hole in it. I've since noticed that on Samsung and Panasonic panels, the buffers are usually damaged when the panels get cracked, so a lot of used parts are no good. Shopjimmy does test their boards but we have seen bad parts from them in the past, too.

I think the only thorough way of fixing this is to replace the buffer ICs but it's a lot of work; so if you don't have that capability, you will have to just hope you don't get a bad board (perform this test before installing the new board.)

I checked the panel very carefully with a flashlight and do not see any cracks anywhere so I believe the panel is alright.

Replacing the ICs is probably far more involved than I am comfortable with. I think I'll try out shopjimmy and hopefully get a working buffer.

Because the Y Sustain has been hooked up to a damaged buffer, do you think it's damaged as well or should I be safe just replacing the buffer board?

The Y-main should be OK: I'm not aware of any buffers damaging newer Samsung Y-mains or vice versa

                            Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                            - sound and backlight, but no picture
                            - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                            - it keeps rebooting
                            - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                            - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                            - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                            - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

                            by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and

I got a 15-IIL05 that failed to turn on BUT IT DID TRY TO TURN ON and then turned off after 30+- seconds, i disassembled it and found a screw loose inside the case.
With charger it turns on, fan spins but gives no image.
Tested main mosfets no short, tested 3.3v,5v,DRAM, CPU etc and they were present.
                            Reflashed BIOS, same problem.
                            Replaced both main mosfets.
Checked main mosfets again and i noticed that they closed once the laptop shut down, so i decided to bypass them and used a bench PSU to check how much power the laptop was drawing while trying to turn on, 20v@3A,...

                            Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...
