    Panasonic TC-P50S2 Snowy Picture

Hi all, and thanks in advance for the help.
I have a Panasonic TC-P50S2 50" Plasma. When I first turn on the TV the picture is very snowy and Sparkly, it seems to have slight lilac color image retention and looks as if contrast is set to extreme levels. After about 5 minutes it clears completely and has a beautiful picture with no issues.
I can not post pictures at this time as the screen is clear now. this only seems to happen when the tv has been off a few hours.
Does anyone have any clue as to what might be going on?

My guess would be a problem with the SS board perhaps with the Ve bias circuit or Ve voltage, fault of which can cause purple tint.

I can take and post a pic in the morning when it has been off for a few hours.
I do not know where to find any of the things you mentioned in the tv but have a DMM and am willing to follow any instructions for troubleshooting and repair.
Thank you for your quick response. I will post pictures ASAP.

A picture of the fault and of the circuit boards inside of the TV would be useful. In a Panasonic, the SS board is on the right when looking from the back of the set.

This is of the fault. I will send pics of the board's this afternoon. It only does this for about five minutes then clears until the next time it is turned on after being off for a few hours.

That's one of the most original Panasonic failures I've seen here. looking at the first shot, I'm thinking A board then at the last I'm thinking SC/SD/SU and then after it warms up you say perfect which would make me suspicious of the A again.

Maybe next time try warming the A board up and see if it goes away quicker.

            This will interesting to follow.

Yeah that's not an SS board fault in my opinion; if anything SC or missing drive waveform due to A board fault.

Here are pictures of the board's inside the housing. I do not know what each one is called

P board, SS board, A board, SC board (with SU+SD boards below), SU board (with SC board above)

I don't see anything obviously wrong. Is there a starting point that I should begin with?

                              .
Take a hair dryer and turn on TV when it's cold, blow hot air onto Aboard and see if it clears up faster.
Also, you can do reverse,a can of air(to clean inside of pc etc) held upside down, will spray its freon out and works as a freezing aid.
That way you can warm up a board, till its a clear pic, then use the freezing spray targeted at certain "suspected" areas and see if it goes back to bad picture..
Works great for these kinda problems to pin point which area/component reacts to temp differences....

didn't think about the air to cool it back off. I was worried about heating up with the hair dryer causing it to clear then having to wait several hours to cool off. I will get a can of air this afternoon and report my findings.
Thanks to everyone for the help again.

I can get the problem to occur and clear by heating or cooling this section of the SC board.

Not certain on which that part is but it looks like the VSET or INIT-F generation which could cause this fault.

It is on this board. I think it is the SC. I have no idea what a VSET or INIT-F is.

Yes I'm aware of that, the problem is it's probably going to be down to a very small component in that circuit so locating it will be hard. You would probably require an oscilloscope.

Maybe the best bet for you is to locate a replacement board since you've narrowed the fault down to one board.
