Samsung UE48JU7000 screen issue after backlight replacement

    Hi all,

Because of two bright spots and a couple of dark spots I decided to replace the backlights in my Samsung UE48JU7000. See attached photos:

I thought all went well, but after full assembly and testing it out it turns out not all is fine. The backlights are completely fine but I have some weird issues on the right half of the screen. Since I didn't really touch the T-CON board (apart from taking out the ribbons of the display and reconnecting them on assembly) it would be weird that the issue is with the T-CON board... But based on the behavior of the service menu test patterns I wonder if they could provide clarity on the cause.

Although I was very gently with the display I guess one of the panel ribbons could have loosened somewhere. I couldn't spot anything visually and slight taps on them doesn't seem to do anything.

Based on the patterns video below hosted on my Google Photos, does anyone have any experience confirming/denying that this is a T-CON issue?

    I've already:
    • retried the original backlights, issue stays
    • reseated all ribbons on the T-CON board multiple times
    • visual inspection of the all ribbons, they seem fine to me
    • tried running the tv with only one of the two T-CON ribbons connected, in neither case the screen shows anything

In case of any other ideas, please let me know! Thanks!

    Kind regards,
    ScHAmPi.

I did actually. It wasn't the T-CON. On the "broken" side I tore of the COF tabs. As i pulled them off the part of the screen right next to them cleared up. It was the most satisfying feeling. I'm not sure what their function is and whether the solution is longterm viable because unfortunately I cracked the display upon reassembly.

Anyways, here's a video of the COF tabs being torn off.

      Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply, did yours only have a half dark screen or did it have horizontal lines on too? Mine is just half dark but someone has just commented on my post saying that unless I have horizontal lines as well as dark screen then the side ribbon removal doesn’t apply to me

It was dark on the right half of the screen. In the video I had already removed some of the COFs. I guess if only some of them are bad it would show up as horizontal lines (well... bands) I guess.

No, I didn't say it HAD to have horizontal lines, I said it can have them. I advised having a close look at the cofs on the suspect side, because there is usually visual evidence of a bad cof. I have had a tv or 2 with a bad side cof, one was pretty tricky, had to look at both sides of the cof to find the defect, which was a very tiny hole.

              Samsung UE55JU6800K half screen dark
              by Chrissygizmo
Hello everyone, I’ve just been given a Samsung UE55JU6800K smart tv as it had white spots on the screen due to the led lenses falling off. After refitting them & putting the tv back together I thought it was a nice easy fix for a free bedroom tv , then I tried it before screwing the back into place. I realised that the right side of the screen was darker than the other side, I removed the screen again as I thought the backlights had failed but they are fine.
I put the screen back in place & turned it back on . The screen seemed to be ok again but different screens on the same...

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
              by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help Needed🙏
              by Daren87
              Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

samsung galaxy ao2s very temperamental after screen replaced
              by Chrissygizmo
Hi , I've recently replaced the screen in my Samsung galaxy ao2s, at first it wouldn't even turn on, it had the charging symbol on the screen when plugged in but the green circle wasn't going around to show it charging....
Ive eventually managed to get it on and working but it's very temperamental...

The battery icon always reads as 50% , when the phone goes into lock screen mode i sometimes can't get the screen back on unless I plug the charger in to get it to light up, also it keeps putting the camera app on.. u think it could be something to do with the side buttons. ...

Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100 - BIOS Issue, Black Screen
              by wizard13
              Hello everyone,

I am experiencing a BIOS-related issue with my Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100. When I power on the laptop, the screen stays black, and there is no response from the system. I suspect a corrupted BIOS.

I have checked the forum and the available documentation but could not find a solution specific to my issue.
