    Is my plasma dead?

    Hello,

Cut to the chase video of the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjnmn...ature=youtu.be

My apartment complex had a power surge and their lobby plasma, a 50" LG 50pc5d, wouldn't turn back on. They said I could have it. I wiped down the absurd amount of dust, air-dusted the inputs, and got it to turn back on. At first there were some bright red lines, then a little jostling and more wiping got rid of the lines. For a little while the screen was almost perfect! There are lots of red "sparklies", especially noticeable when part of the screen switches from colors to black.

Odd occurance: The sparklies seem to have disappeared when I used an RGB test video. They also don't happen when there's a pure box of color on the screen. With my roku, the netflix logo (all red) and the hulu logo (green gradients) looked perfect. But one of the grey logos had tons of pixel sparklies.

Can you guys let me know if this is the kind of issue that might be fixed easily, or should I throw this old plasma away. I took a video

    Re: Is my plasma dead?

Looks like it could be a fault with the VSC or -VY voltages on the Y-sustain. It should be fixable. If the TV does not normally have sparkly pixels when working, it's well worth it; even if it does, I'd say you can get the CTRL board flashed by "CapKid" on here to fix that issue (it won't fix the flashing) for about $25.

You'd need a digital multimeter and be willing to do some probing around.
Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Hello, got a ST50 plasma TV for repair. No signs of life, not even blink codes. Opened it up to check the power supply, type MPF6914. Apparent issues from visual detection and measuring for shorts:
      Diode type G972s6 - D101 with a short
      Mosfet 06N90E - Q301 shorted
      Fuse T5AH 250V - F103 blown
      Diode D301 shorted
      Relay DG1U-17VDC II - RL001 blown

I have not found a circuit diagram. Maybe someone here already dealt with a similar issue? Thanks for tips where else to check 😀...

      Samsung PLASMA PN50B530S2F DEAD

Hi everyone I have this plasma here that has no standby light and is completely dead. I opened it up to see extremely dirty and dusty to which I cleaned but made no difference. So I checked all fuses good. I checked the standby voltage 5 volts good. Then I did that plasma control board test by shorting the pins(THANKS 2 TVTIMMY) and the tv actually turned on and made a sound. Does this mean I need a new motherboard?...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
      by double_DD
      Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Got my hands on another non-working TV this weekend.

Person I got it from says he heard a load POP and the picture died.
Nothing to see when I opened up the back.
I found a single thread about this model on this forum and in it @dick_barton provided a very useful Fast Track Troubleshooting guide.

I followed the steps and found that my power supply was good (good Va & Vs) but only after unplugging the X & Y Boards.

I narrowed the problem to the Y-Sus board and found shorted IGBT (RJP30E3). There were also two other casualties...
