    Panasonic TH-42PX25 480 issue

Hello, I picked up a cheap TH-42PX25. The picture looks fine with a 720 or better signal. I checked this on an antenna input.

It looks to be the same on the composite as well, although I couldn't check the 480 against the 720 signal on the composite because my cable box here in the shop isn't HD.

If there is a name for this problem, what is it, so I can add it to my knowledge base, as well as anyone else who hasn't seen it before.

    Thanks,
    Brian

Ok, so I got into the service mode and I see that it's set for 1080i, and all other options are grayed out. I di have the service manual, but so far nothing how to get into that mode, and does this mean that this set can only do either 1080, 720, or 480 and not auto switch? seems weird.

      Re: Panasonic TH-42PX25 480 issue

Ok, found a thread in the AVS forums. http://www.avsforum.com/t/534816/hel...3rd-off-screen.

A guy had the same issue I did. He had panasonic service come out and upgrade software. So being the post is 9 years old, does anyone know where to get firmware updates for the panasonics, and how to do them?

Ok, so some more digging. I found the files and instructions needed.

If you browse the ftp site, you will find what you need.

I tried to do the upgrade, but the tv is telling me the card is not supported. I believe it's because the card I'm using is a 2gb card, and the panny cannot probably support it. So I just ordered a 128mb sd card on ebay. I have to wait for that to show.

So the tv will sit up against the wall until the card shows up.

Ok, so the sd card didn't work, at all. I did find a thread in the avs forums about using a programming jig to reprogram the tv. Does anyone out here have one that I could rent or borrow?

Anyone have this jig in this service bulletin?

              Re: Panasonic TH-42PX25 480 issue

EDIT: I thought I had this figured but not 100% sure. Also i'm reading that TNPEEPJIGS and TXNPX25JIGS are subs but probably also no longer available.

The JIG goes to PA23 which goes to DG8 via PA8. I'm looking at

              STB5V
              SRQ
              GND
              SCL1
              SDA1
              SCL2
              SDA2

That what we need to trace from DG8 and see which EEPROM it may be flashing. Needs fresh eyes on it , see if you or anyone else can nut it out.
where I may fall down on this is SDA2 which looks like it goes to M38047M6-C15FP CONVERT MICOM which may also be programmable and what is being flashed in which case this idea goes out the window.

This could be something TOM66 may be able to figure.

It does say corrupted EEPROM data so If I was having a half guess, IC002 is the one I expect is being reloaded but IC002 is listed $9-12,
              IC002, C3EBJC000037

are fitted to 37 - 50 inch PDP. there are some LCD and CRT models showing too.

IF (BIG IF) still able to be purchased, replacing SOIC 8pin is real easy and should give you the same result as re-writing the EEPROM.

SEARS shows IC002 as NLA but Encompass and partsstore say special order?

maybe consider that path if the DG is expensive/difficult to get and you're confident that reflash is all you need.

                Re: Panasonic TH-42PX25 480 issue

There was a long thread in avsforums about the issue and borrowing a jig from one of the posters out there. However, he hasn't been on since August. The jig looks easy enough to make, but the eeprom with the new software on it would be needed as well.

I did hear in one thread that you could download the file px25.exe, which I've found, and flash it. I do have an sd card that I ordered, but the front sd card reader is still having issues reading that card as well.

I was going to try the sd card in the rear service slot and try following the instructions in the service bulletin, just to see if it would work.

there are a couple of DG boards for about $45, I asked the vendors if they were pulled from systems that are after the serial # mentioned in the bulletin, or if the systems were updated. I'm hoping that the problem is over 8 years old and a lot of these cards were updated.

Picked this set for $25, great picture on 720, I mean great, no sparkles, anything. For a ten year old plasma, that's pretty good. I may be giving this set to my brother for his new house. It's realllly heavy though lol.

I guess the SD is in FAT format? If this could be done via the SD I wonder why Panasonic went to all the trouble of manufacturing a specialised jig?

Post 251 is not promising. Annoying that he mentions having trouble getting the SD to work, gets somone to fix that but no clue to how.

It didn't work, would've been too easy lol. I'm going to order the new board and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I'll send it back for a restocking fee. I'm hoping that the replacement board has been flashed or is from a later serial #.

                      Hi

The TV seem to start ( blinking green) but goes into blinking red. No display and or backlight. Full view photo.

                      Actions :

                      1. Disconnected Panel's Right, 2nd, board : TV comes ON (steady green , no blinking red )
1a. You can see in two photos the B/W screen , fading blue "HDMI12" , and the wierd sides of the image, like an old CRT.
Obviously the fault is from or on the Right, secondary board

                      2. I taped the Flex tracks, ~2 tracks at a time- see Photo. The issue seems to be on the V lines (Assuming Data...

                      by Ama Chur
After watching some youtube videos and checking some forums, I'm at a loss. With both ribbon cables connected, we have no image. With the left one pulled out, the screen is black and white, split down the middle. With the right cable removed, it is all black. Backlight is working fine and we have sound and can open applications. We are strapped for money right now and are hoping to repair whatever the issue may be. I think the TV was manufactured in 2012, so I'm aware that may not be possible. Edit: Found a single vertical line of blue pixels on the left side of the screen with one of the ribbon...

                      Hi
Got my Panasonic plasma tv that stopped working suddenly.
Took out the cover all the leads from the powr baord in the middle apart of the main 220AC. and measured Vsus and 15V DC on P2 and P11 connector. Found nothing. Concluded it is the board
Replaced with a second hand one but still the same issue.
Cannot see the 5V or the 15V on the board with or without all the other leads attached.
Here is an example of what I have measured on P6 connector (see the image).
3V DC on pin 6 (STBby 5V and
                      0,3V DC on pin 7 (F_stdby_on)
