okay I'm a little confused. Can you explain why a ceramic chip could short circuit and fail but still be good? I apologize for my lack of knowledge in electrical components like this :-( just an FYI The red dye ceramic chip is on the bottom of power supply and the corrosion on the Vias is known the main board which I ordered a new one this evening.

When it failed so it short out the circuit, if you check the resistance, it will have very low resistance, good cap will show infinite resistance.
So put the Ohm meter on the cap to see if it shows low resistance reading. If it is shorted, then it cannot be good.

Ok I understand now. So if this cap is no good can I replace it? Or when you say it shorted out the circuit does that mean there is damage else where? OOnce again thank you so much for your help! This information is so very interesting to me :-)

OK, just take the resistance reading and tell me what you get.

            Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR4 Problem

This is from the training manual
            -------------------------------------------------------------------------
            TCON Error 5X
Communications have been lost between the video processor on the
FB1/FB3 board and the TCON (TFT Control) board which is part of the
LCD panel. This can be caused by a defective FB1/FB3 board, a defective
LVDS cable, or a TCON failure. On XBR models using the frame doubling
UB1 board the problem could reside there.
            -------------------------------------------------------------------------
The area of that corrosion seems to be in the audio line out muting circuit. If that was water damage, how did it get there, and did it also get on the fb1/fb3 boards above the AU board. which might cause a 5 blink code

              Re: Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR4 Problem

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have same tv with same 5 blinking lights.I have decided to attempt repair myself, starting with replacing caps in the power supply board, and go from there if that doesn't fix the problem. My main question before I start is "can the rear cover panel be removed while tv is still mounted to its stand?" Or, does the stand have to be removed first?
