Odd--Cant update firmware on Sams. PS-42C450

Downloaded latest firmware from Samsung site, its a Binary file exe type thing, not in compressed format etc.

Copied to usb stick and shoved it in set.

TV says that there is no suitable firmware file on USB stick. Ive checked the firmware on the stick--looks OK to me, its number is -
    T-TDT5DEUC_1024.1

Does this mean the set has the latest (same) firmware (although the number is quite different and ends in 1018)--Or have I done summit daft?

When I updated my Samsung once you have downloaded it to your usb stick you will then need to double click on it as it then extracts files from the .exe file and store the file you require on the usb stick. Then put stick in tv and it will find the file
      hope this helps

lets think logicically here. its an .exe file, samsung firmware is linux based, linux cant run .exe files. give up? its a self extracting archive! output from the SEA:
How to prepare the USB Memory Drive

Please check Firmware name of your TV before upgrading (OSD > Support > Contact Samsung)

        ※ Firmware Version : T-TDT5DEUC-1024.1

        1. Save the firmware file from Samsung.com onto your computer.

        File Name : T-TDT5DEUC_1024.1.exe

        2. Connect the USB Memory Drive to the USB port of your PC.

Copy the file onto the USB Memory Drive.

        3. Go to the USB Memory Drive and then double click the file.

        4. Press the "Install" button.

        5. Unzipping is in progress.

        6. After completing, please press the"OK" and "Close" button.

        7. A folder containing the firmware files has been added to the USB memory drive.

        Folder Name : T-TDT5DEUC

        8. Safely disconnect the USB memory drive by right clicking the green check mark on the taskbar and then left click"Safely Remove".
and the list of the output files from the SEA:
        appdata.img.sec exe.img.sec info.txt validinfo.txt
        appdata.img.sec.cmac exe.img.sec.cmac major_version version_info.txt
        appdata.img.sec.cs exe.img.sec.cs minor_version
        appdata.img.sec.vs exe.img.sec.vs rocommon.img

im guessing that the actual firware is the files that have ".img" in there name.

          Ah--See?

Now--WHY didn't Samsung Website TELL us about this, as I specifically Looked for update instructions!

Ive now prepared the firmware on the stick as you outlined above, Thanks for that!

and now the big question! WHY did you update the firmware? fix a problem or just have it up to date?

If the main board is not working and you suspect the EEPROM how can the update work?
I mean if the file is corrupt and TV does not boot. No way to view what is going on to get it
Reloaded. I have never done it but want to learn.

If you read Alistar's other posts it was an attempt to sort out poor Freeview reception, Freeview is our name for OTA digital television which is free to view.

                  Well,--That was painless,--Thanks to Goontron!....

Replaced the 1018 firmware with 1024.1

The reason was reduce the (pretty slim) possibility of failure of the Y-Sus that some sets of this make have suffered from (According to this Forum). During my servicing of this particular set, I found that the Y-Sus gets Extremely Hot....
--Its also nice to have the latest versions--with all the bugs ironed out too....

I doubt the firmware will help the hot Y-Sus--unless there's 'H' bridges where the latency is altered by the software, but maybe the extra heatsink and practically silent fan I extracted from a Skybox I added will, it now runs just above ambient temp--Instead of 55 odd degrees after just 15 minutes!

A sprinkling of good quality Nichicons and Rubycons I'm sure will help too. Those Samyoungs and Samwha caps didnt test that great on removal, although looked fine.

My set was working reasonably well--there was no apparent real reason to update, and no corrupted EEPROMS to worry about.....

Ah--Actually Tom, That particular fault was man-made, not of the set!

                    I had a dodgy patch-lead! Doh!

i can tell you that TV is better in Australia than the US........

Pretty sure this is one with the Xmain issue requiring the update. I fixed one here, Xmain failure, needed X & Y, Tv had a grand total of 1100hrs runtime.

PS42C451B2D, Xmain BN96-13067A , I don't have access to a tech release like you have for the D450 but Sj mandates a firmware upgrade and most other sellers of the board also mention it.

The update was 1024.1, June 2011, that's all I know. Maybe it was an issue over 2 models, mine was a late 2010 model.

This model PN42C450B1DXZA had the same boards, found a bulletin for 1006 reduce buzzing, it's now 1008 so I'm thinking they still had issues.

                            That's all I got.
