    Sharp LC-32D44U (3 power 1 opc blinks)

    I acquired another broken tv to repair. I have been reading the posts about different Sharp tv's with this code and all seem to be the main board. Code is: Initial communication from the main CPU is not received. (After canceling the reset, request for the monitor model No. is not received.) → Communication line failure or main CPU start-up failure. But I want to see if I can fix the main board. I was wondering, on the main board, there is a part called a filter FL5101 according to the service manual. It's metering wide open. I'm wondering if this is Sharp's idea of a fuse? Any thoughts?

      I took the pic with my phone. Let me get my camera and take another one.

      EDIT: My camera is worse. Hopefully this pic is enough.

      It looks like a smd type fuse.

        All the voltages look good out of the psu. A relay clicks in it every few seconds then when the light codes come on, the psu shuts down.

          I had one like this before (different model though, but it too had communications failure), turned out that one of the supply voltages to the main CPU (the +3.3V) had gone missing. Do you have main board schematics?

            I downloaded the service manual and it does have the schematics. Which main schematic am I looking for? There is quite a few sections for it. Just to update, I have no pic, no sound and no backlight. Did you get yours working Tom?

              Can you link to your service manual? I have the 37" USA version, 32" European version, and 32" near-match USA version. But no exact match.

                  I saw the filter info in the service manual. I thought it might have been like a fuse. It's metering wide open. I guess that's how it's supposed to meter. Anyways here is the link to the manual I downloaded.

                    I don't have that ic on my board Tom. I think my board is a little different. I did try free spray all over and no change. Relay is clicking on the motherboard every few seconds.

                    Pins 1-12 on the power supply are reading 13,13,13,13,0,0,0,0,3,3,5,0

                    After the opc light comes on it goes to 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,5,0

                    Now would the power supply be shutting down or the main board shutting it down. This tv has a goofy setup. Power supply goes into the main board then feeds the power switch, the speakers, the t-con (it's built into the main board), then it feeds back to the power supply for the backlight (I'm assuming).

                    I'm at a loss. I think I'm going to buy a main board and see how it goes from there. And if it doesn't work then I'll buy a power supply. All the caps on the power supply are Rubycon's and not bulging so I'm sure they are fine but I could meter them anyways.

                      I haven't had a chance to look at the main board schematic, but there will be a ton of voltage regulators and buck converters (DC-DC converter) which generate the lower voltages for the rest of the board, 1.2V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, etc are common. Most likely one of these is too low.

                        Since the backlight/inverter panel is built into the power supply, wouldn't the backlight come on once the power was turned on? This set up is more confusing than the other tv's I've been working on.

                          If it's like the DH66, that cable simply carries additional control signals for the inverter/PSU, and feedback signals. Inverter ON/OFF, PSU Rush Relay, PSU Main ON/OFF, Backlight Dim, Backlight Error, etc. The main board doesn't provide any power to the inverter, just control signals. They're just on two different connectors because they ran out of space on one or want to support TVs that might have a separate inverter board, perhaps.

                            I had this problem on my Sharp LC42D64 power and OPC light blinks once together then power twice. What it turned out to be was the bracket that holds the heatsink on the chip on the mainboard was grounding out on whatever that is underneath it on the top left side. . .. I removed the bracket put down some tape put it back on and the tv powered right up. Its been working great for the past 3 weeks... its worth a try and if it works for u then great..

                              I'll try removing the heatsink to see what happens.

                              Tom, I'm starting to think it's the power supply. I get the top led flashing red on the main board and the bottom one is solid until it goes into opc light blink. The backlight doesn't light up at all. I would think being it's part of the power supply that it will light up immediately when you turn the tv on.

                                If you have +13V and +5V from PSU, and they're stable, the PSU is ruled out. Comms failures are almost exclusively main board (they indicate one of the processors isn't responding.)

                                  It has 13, 5, and 3 volts leaving the psu to the main board until the tv goes into fault mode. Then I only have the 5v supply leaving after that.

                                    The main board's probably turning it off. Sharp PSUs don't produce 3V, at least not in my experience... What rail is 3V on? That could be the on/off signal from main board to PSU. What is it labelled as? PSON? ON/OFF? PWR_ON?

                                      When first turned on here is the voltages on the psu pins out.

                                      pin 1 - 13v (13v)
                                      pin 2 - 13v (13v)
                                      pin 3 - 13v (13v)
                                      pin 4 - 13v (13v)
                                      pin 5 - 0v (GND)
                                      pin 6 - 0v (GND)
                                      pin 7 - 0v (GND)
                                      pin 8 - 0v (GND)
                                      pin 9 - 3.3v (AC DET)
                                      pin 10 - 3.3v (PS ON)
                                      pin 11 - 5v (BUS 5v)
                                      pin 12 - 0v (GND)

                                      When it goes into fault mode, they all go to 0v except for the bus 5v.

                                        That is fine. BUS5V = BU Board (main board) Standby 5V. PSON = Signal from main board to turn power supply on. When the main board hits a fault condition, it shuts off the power board to prevent possible damage (in this instance not applicable, but in a case such as over-voltage on a power rail, very much applicable.)

                                        If you have a power board fault typically it's 2 blinks plus N OPC blinks indicating which rail has the fault, sometimes that can code for main board power fault too.

                                        I can try and list some test points off for the various voltages when I get home from work.
