    Burn in question

Somebody is selling a TV (Samsung LN37A550) and he is claiming that the TV was left paused and they realized that after two days and now the screen is bunt in.
Is this possible with today's LCD TVs?

    Re: Burn in question

I've seen quite bad burn in with a Samsung LE37R74, so yes, very possible. From what I remember of a few years ago it's something to do with the screens being over driven to get a better response rate, I guess if an image is left for too long it can "hold" the pixels in that position. I have an LE46A556 at the moment and I do see image retention if an image is left static for a few hours, it will only last for an hour or so if used though.

So, you are saying that in time it should go away?

        Re: Burn in question

I don't think so, not from my experience anyway. Image burn and image retention are different, image burn is permanent, image retention is usually temporary and will fade over time, usually within a few minutes to a few hours. If a static image has been left for days, even with an LCD, I'm sure it would be classed as image burn and so is there forever.

          Re: Burn in question

Some people say that it should be turned off for at least as long as the image was left on. Others say to play a high saturation color video like a cartoon that will exercise the lcd and help cure the problem. I guess its like the cure for a hangover, everyone has one but do they work.

            Re: Burn in question

It can happen if the LCD VCOM is set incorrectly which is a problem with crappy Funai based sets and with certain older ChiMei/Chungwha panels. It may or may not be reversible.
AFAIK, it does not happen with Samsung 37" A550 FHD sets...

I have seen that on a 47 inch Vizio lcd my father in law has. It's an lcd and has the cartoon network logo on the panel always. It seems to dissipate when he watches other colorful things for a while though.

It was a repaired tv I gave him a few years back

                  Re: Burn in question

color saturation issues won't be attributed to a burned panel, that looks more like a tcon problem or a main board issue if it is a ti con problem it could be the gamma IC or its a main board issue it could be just a problem in the board itself

That is most likely AUO gamma chip AS15F fault, or VGL/VGH are poor.

I'm thinking about the AS15F issue myself.
I will check it out later on today.

                        Re: Burn in question

                        So I picked it up.
It shows as in that picture mostly red. Other colors seem fine.
I can see the previous screen words from the menu for a while. To me it doesn't seem like it's a burn in issue. More like a slow refresh issue.
I have done a factory reset, changed settings in the screen size/model section, LVDS output, without any result.
I'm guessing that I will have to replace the AS15F chip on the T-con board.

First check gamma voltage curve before replacing AS15. Many demos on how to do this on this forum posted by myself and others.

I have replaced the AS15F chip, twice. It seems, like the first time didn't go well, so I had to remove it and re-install it.
Second time it worked, but it didn't fix the red tint. It's the same as before.
I may have damaged the chip the first time or there is a mainboard issue?

Here are some picture with the screen as of now, after replacing the gamma chip, it was the same before.
If I select Dynamic the screen brightens up, if I chose Movie mode, it becomes dark.
Before I did a factory reset, the background on the menu it was red.
The EDID should be on or off? It was off and all the positions were saying Failed. I have refreshed those settings and they turned on Successful.
After this, the menu background became black.
I have tried switching the screen size and model number, but the present one shows the best picture. Switched the LVDS setting, but became worse.
Boards are rare and expensive. T-con is $85 on Ebay, same goes for a main board.
                                    Any ideas?

Did you do voltage checks before replacing it, as instructed elsewhere? That will tell you if AS15 is bad, or if another fault exists.

The voltages were all over. In some spots were dropping, but then went up and down again.
I haven't checked that now, good point. I will do that tomorrow.

                                          Greetings everyone,

I have a HANNSG Hi221 monitor that exhibits two seconds to black issues (backlight goes off, display is still on as confirmed by shining a flashlight on it) with some additional oddities...

The monitor failed on me with a standard "2 seconds to black" some time ago prompting me to initially replace most of the electrolytic capacitors (some of them were bulging/leaking).
Things kinda sorta worked for a night, then the problem returned along with some flickering and "buzzing" noises.

                                          Upon closer inspection...

                                          Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...

                                          Vizio M60-C3 Left Edge problem
                                          by Pinky Deepak
I have a M60-C3 where the left edge has started showing issues as seen in the picture attached. Along with this, I also noticed some darkening on the left half of the screen which went away after I left the TV unplugged. i initially thought it was the led backlight that was wearing out but looks like something to do w the TCONN board. I searched this forum but couldn't find anyone else seeing this issue. most of them were LH/RH completely gone. any insights or guidance is appreciated.

Here's a video of both the issues: https://youtu.be/hMqc760nB3o

Panasonic Tx-40cx400b top left half screen not displaying correct

                                          Hi,

Trying to work out if this is TFT problem or TCon issue.
The TV powers up but the top half of the screen, from the right it is OK, but as you look across to the left halfway across it starts get duller and duller until it is very dark on the lefthand side, currently I trying to clean the remote as it seems to have something film wise on the pads stopping it from registering buttons pressed.

Also when changing the screen size of Windows PC display to say to a smaller pixel sizewindow, the original window displayin the top left stays/takes a few seconds to disappear?...

So like the title says, I have an old Stereo Receiver/Amplifier that I picked up from the goodwill, it's a HH Scott Model A510. When I first got it home it had zero output. Opened it up, notice the fuses are missing. Pop in 2 new fuses (AGC4A 250V) and try again, within 5 seconds the L channel fuse POP! I don't see any visible indications of damage or arc burns on the PCB, no popped resistors or diodes, no burnt traces or blown out caps. So I decide to just try another new fuse, POP. Swapped around my R and L speaker wires, and checked the integrity of all wires and connections. Everything looks...
