Sony XBR-65Z9D won't turn on after lighting strike

Good afternoon. I found this forum as I was looking for troubleshooting information for my Sony z9d. A lightning strike hit very close to the house and did nearly $30,000 in electronics damage. The TV appears completely dead with no status light and no picture. I found the Sony XBR-65Z9D service manual and followed the troubleshooting steps on Pages 21-26. All checks seem normal except DC_OFF_DET check on Page 23 R420 voltage was slightly higher than 3V. It was 3.475V and C418 was slightly higher that the 5V at 5.3V.

I proceeded to check the Power Board CN6401 connector. With all cables connected I have standby Voltage, Power On Voltage and all 12V when I plug in the TV. I do not have T_CON ON 3.3Volts nor do I have T_Con 12Volts. I disconnected all cables and provided a jumper from StandyBy Volts 3.3 to Power On and to T_Con On. T_Con 12 has 12V output now.

I'm at a loss. I think its the BM2 board that has the fault, but not sure. Can you assist? I'm comfortable making all checks. I would like to repair at component level if possible.

    Thank you for your help!

Lightning usually destroys the PSU or the main board in my research. The PSU has all correct voltages, so clearly the PSU can be ruled out. Likely your main board is busted now. If you had hdmis plugged into it or anything else plugged in, the lightning could have crept through those cords and popped the main board. Check for shorts all around the HDMI ports or whatever you had plugged in. Maybe something is burned by those ports.

TCON on will occur when main board sends signal and since you jump tested then you should be all good. I assume you have voltages going to the LED driver board also right?

And any voltage on the tcon fuse when plugged in on stby?

I'm not sure which board is the LED driver board. I haven't removed the steel plate over the TCon board. I will check. Thank you.

Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help Needed🙏
          by Daren87
          Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

Sony KD-75XF9005 grey Picture but Sound. TCON or panel?
          by iglitare
          Hi,

i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.

Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted...

LG 82UN8570AUD ~ TCON or PANEL?
          by kca
          Hello all ~

Hope this finds you well. This LG 82UN8570AUD (April 2021 model) 4K UHD television has full audio capabilities but video is compromised / problematic.

When I picked up this large LG tv it had a full black screen upon startup. Previous owner said it just went black one day. No popping sound or anything else of note.

I got the display to work by taping off several traces of the right-hand side ribbon cable on the TCON that leads from TCON to PANEL. However, despite dozens and dozens of attempts to find the right combination / range of traces taped...

          Sony KD-55X9000F TCON Issue
          by thelankanguy
The TV shows a black screen with no image.
TCON ribbon connectors were disconnected individually for image and there was no half image even.
Later both ribbons were disconnected and TCON voltages were tested.
12V, 3.3V, 1.8V were seen present but VONE signal reads 0V.
There is also a short to ground in this circled inductor.
Is this a TCON issue or something else ?...

          Sony KD-55AG9 TCON?
          by bbrain
          Hi,

I have this problem with my Sony 55' AG9.
          It flashes 4x.
I have found the service manual, and seems it is the TCON.

Before I buy a TCON can someone check the vid?

          Thanks in advance!...
