    Cap Kits?

The Olevia 242 PS has about 10 Caps. On Ebay they sell the kit with all of them for $15.

Is this pretty reasonable or is it better to just go to the parts store and buy singles?

Anyone here do kits for LCD's?

    Thanks

I've bought from Simoncapacitor more than once on ebay and he's been great. All the caps I bought are still running in my monitors and tv's.

If you open the monitor and write here what says on each capacitor, we can point you to compatible capacitors on Badcaps store, or other reputable distributors like digikey, mouser, newark/farnell.

Depending on how many capacitors you need to replace, it could be as cheap as 3-5$, plus shipping to you (varies from store to store)

Those kits aren't anything special, the guy probably had one monitor through service and did exactly what i said above. He adds a few dollars to the total price for a profit, and also makes a profit by buying each capacitor in volume for discounts.

Purchased a kit from this guy.

They only use Panasonic, Nichicon and Rubycon.

18 Caps for $15 with free shipping. Arrived in two days.

Seemed like a better idea than driving 10 miles across town only to find that some were not in stock or getting RS crap.

All of the failed caps were CapXon, 2/3 of them swollen.

Replaced them all and much to my surprise the TV came right up.

I have an old Weller that never has tinned right. Can someone recommend a reasonably priced iron or station for this type of work?

            Thanks again.

The Hakko 936A clones (Gordak/Atten/Lukey and so on) are pretty good all-rounders. I have a Gordak 936A bought 2 years ago and i'm pretty happy with it. We use the same stations at work. The soldering irons are a bit flimsy but they're cheap to replace.

I have another, cheaper still, station with just a power control (Fahrenheit 28020) that i bought before the Gordak. That did a decent job as well, but i rarely use that anymore. Takes forever to heat up.

              A working TV? How boring!
