hi all, my first time here. i really want to thank anyone that can give me some insight on this plasma. I have a vizio plasma p42hd from a local university with no picture, and no o.s.d. panel does light when turned on for a few seconds and then it stays lit but very dim. front panel l.e.d. lights amber then green and stays on, the z-sus heat sink would get warm but the y-sus would stay cold. the fs152 on the y-sus was open but all other fuses were good, replaced fs152 and now all the voltages are spot on 5v, 16v, 60va, except the 185vs is at 200v. all P.S. voltages were spot on so I replaced the y-sus. after replacing the y-sus, the tv will power on, with led going from amber to green, screen lights up for a few seconds then goes faint with no video, no graphics. now the z-sus and the y-sus heat sinks stay cold. all the voltages are still spot on. the service manual says to replace the graphics board, (which i have done 2 times), and if that doesn't correct the problem it is a bad panel. is the service manual right, even with a panel that lights up? I have checked the voltages on the power supply over and over, i have replaced the graphics board, the z-sus and y-sus and the left and right buffers. of course all the replacements were supposed to be from working tv's with damaged panels. I do not have a lot of experience with plasmas and i would like to know if a panel can light up with the z-sus and y-sus heat sinks remain cold and have a defective panel? i really could use any help anyone can offer. thank you in advance

Re: Vizio P42HD BAD PANEL?????
PLEASE! Paragraphs!
What happens if you put all of your old boards back in?
I have never seen bad panel w/ no picture on these LG plasmas, except when they are cracked. Usually in such a case though they buzz loudly. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Vizio P42HD BAD PANEL?????
i have not tried putting the original boards back in. If you get close to the y-sus you can hear a little buzzing. but theat is with the back cover off.
i can tell neither the z-sus or the y-sus is drawing any current because they both are cold and at V.is at 200v instead of the 185v that they should be.
the boards that have not been replaced are the P.S. the bottom buffer and the input control.Comment

Re: Vizio P42HD BAD PANEL?????
Hi tom66, I followed your troubleshooting suggestion and unplugged the TV and then disconnected the z-sus and plugged the TV in and when I turn it on all I get is a quick flash of light on the screen and then it goes black. I get the same thing when I do the same thing with the y-sus and either of the buffers. I also re-installed the orignial z-sus and y-sus with no change. i sure am hoping you have other ideas that i could check. thanksComment

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.
Where is the short?
Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.
Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but... -

No Display. Just random blocks of grouped vertical red lines.
Disconnect right 1/2 panel (rear view), left 1/2 displays properly
Masking T-Con Signal Diagnostic
Reduced masking to 5 signals on right 1/2 panel and get perfect picture
Pins are
1 GND
2 VGHD
3 XON
4 VSSQ
5 LC2
6 LC1
VGHD and LC1 masking is absolutely necessary to get working panel. Didn't unmask 3-5 individually.

XON, LC2, LC1 are on AUO s302-21 32pin QFN... -
by frannyjunkI have a Vizio P502UI-B1 50" tv and baked the main board a little too much (to reflow BGA) resulting in a dead tv. I would like to use the Vizio LCD panel in another tv. Someone in the P502UI-B1 thread said he/she was able to take that Vizio LCD panel and put it into an LG 50UH5530 and it worked. Looking at the Tcon boards from the 2 tv's show different model boards (LG = EAMDJ2S55 while the Vizio tcon = V500DK2-CKS2). I have since looked up tv's that uses the V500DK2-CKS2 Tcon board (Hisense 50H7GB, Vizio P502-B1E & M50-C1, Westinghouse WD50UT4490, and a few others). Does this mean any...

This is a dumpster find, don't know if it was hit, there are no visible cracks...
I though there may be something wrong with the panel voltages.
Those I managed to find on the T-Con board. Does it seem normal?

by howardc6449UJ6500 LCD panel has a lighter band on top when first powered on. Goes away (or gets much fainter) after TV on for a few min. After powered off for awhile and power back on, same band appears. If powered on immediately after powering off, no or much fainter band. Running the latest firmware.
Disassembled the TV and lifted the LCD panel during testing. Band is on the LCD panel (can see the band on the panel as I lift it slightly) Backlight is perfectly even at the top edge. Double checked LCD panel alignment in the frame and is perfect but since band moved with the panel, its on... - Loading...
