    Sony KDL-52W3000

    Hi,

I have a Sony KDL-52W3000 that doesn't turn on. I tried to check the fuse and the bridge rectifier but they don't seem to be bad. There are no bulged caps neither.

I'm stuck and I don't know what the next step is. Can someone help me out please?

Could you post us a close-up picture of the plugs on the power supply that go to the main board so we can see the labels? Also, a picture of the entire back showing all boards.

It would be best for reference if it was in the TV with the wires hooked back up for this. Also, have you checked the 5V pins with the power connected to see if you even have standby voltage present?

If you decide there is no voltage coming from the power supply, I'd personally have a hard time justifying spending much time on it. That thing is available for around $15 shipped.

Please find attached the photos as requested. They may not be the best photos but I am trying to improve them.

I didn't find the 5V connector but I found a 6V connector which gave me the reading of 6.3V while the TV is on standby. The socket that I tested is marked with red on one of the pictures.

I also tested a 12V connector that only gave me 1.2V.

Kindly advice if I messed up.

I'm about to leave work so will have to look at this again later but I can't read any of the labels at the connectors on the power supply. Need clear pictures of the board labels there. Maybe someone else can lend a hand in the mean time.

Please find attached photos of the labels on the power board. (named label1 and label2)

I also attached photos showing the connectors to other boards, one of the pictures named tested has the connector which I check for the 6V voltage.

I also noted that someone else tried to replace a cap on this board and it seems like he damaged the board. I marked the damage done to the board on the photo named traces. I am not sure as to where the traces from the cap are going. Can someone help me figure out where the traces are going so that I can check for continuity please?

Ok 12v is achieved when the set has powered on mainboard. 6v must be standby

That capacitor is so badly soldered it might as well not even be there. Cold jointed everywhere. Ugh. It's also a crappy generic cap, probably radioshack in origin, so would suggest replacing it anyway with e.g. Panasonic FC/FM/FR.

I temporarily replaced the capacitor with a normal one for the time being so that at least we can get it up and running.

I cleaned the board and resoldered the cap. One of the legs become cold soldered since the board is a bit damaged but now I figured out the traces and checked for continuity. I will easily bridge the cap by means of a small wire.

Tomorrow morning I will post voltage readings of the board.

hey guys, i found the 5v standby pin and when testing it sometimes it gives me out of range and sometimes I get 20v going down to 0.01V. Sometimes I even see 5.4V.

I cant test the voltages on the other pins as the set doesn't even power on.

I tested the fuse and it seems fine. I also tested the bridge rectifier and it gave normal readings. Should I still post them here?

                                  Any ideas please?

Is meter set for DC volts? If set to AC, it can give strange readings like that.
