I picked up this TV for $50 and the picture quality is decent. The people I bought it from said it would shut off after 5-10 mins. The first night I brought it home, I stuck it on my UPS battery backup with my Panny Plasma and watched Family Guy episodes for 2 hours and it never shut off. After moving it to it's final destination (bedroom) it would shut off much closer to the 5-10 min mark so I started some investigation and found that it the tv is not shutting off, the screen is going black (still playing sound as well) and I can still see the menu/image on it with a flashlight.
So it appears the backlight inverter(s) is bad. It is now to the point where the time that it stays on is random (sometimes depending on if it is left completely unplugged or if a fan is pointed at the PSU with the back plastic off) and it tends to come on and then flicker and go out.
My next question is, I've had some experience with electrical parts and soldering having taken some electrical engineering classes while back in college and worked on things here and there. Is this something that I could test and replace parts? I discovered that the inverter is actually built into the power supply.
