    Vizio VL320M Squeals high frequency

When I got tv it wouldn't power on. I just got a used power supply today and put it in. TV was running fine. Then I proceeded to plus my laptop into it via hdmi. When the tv recognized my computer it displayed my laptop screen when made a high pitch squealing noise. unplugged my laptop and noise wouldn't go away, nor could I kill tv with power button. I unplugged the tv. I turned the tv back on without using hdmi and it would turn on for a couple minutes then turn itself back off which could be a power saver thing i'm not sure at this point. I plugged a ps3 via hdmi and the tv was fine for maybe a minute then it would squeal again. (i'm not sure about this part, but I think the backlight was flickering underneath the main board while the sqealing was happening.) I heard a flicker somewhere in the screen but I smelled it and it smells like a stinkbug got trapped in there. I'm guessing it's the mother board at fault but I may jump the psu to see for sure when I can get a resistor to get me closer to 2.3V than the 4V that the resistor I have now will get me.
I'm guessing capacitors are the first thing I should check.?

Check inverter to ccfl connections. Possible bad connection. Reseat inverter board to start with.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

I had both circuit boards off the tv and checked all wired connections. still the same problem. It's definitely a bad component somewhere.

I've had a few Vizio TVs with similar issues and I'm voting main board. Same thing. High pitched squealing sound. In fact as soon as someone even says, 'hey, I have a broken Vizio' I pretty much assume main board.

Get a piece of tubing, like vacuum tubing for a car. Stick one end in your ear and put the other end in the area where you hear the squealing coming from. As you get closer to the component that is squealing, it will get louder. You can touch the components with the tubing and not risk getting shocked.

            I'm voting main as well.

The fact that it froze up and started making noise when the HDMI cable was plugged in is very suspect of a control board issue.

Check the TV scan capabilities and compare that to the laptop. Set the laptop output to one that the TV is capable of using. Squeel most likely TV trying to use a incompatible setting.

Thanks Aaron and John for the input I agree I am sure it's the main board.
Tank, it's not just with the laptop it did it with the ps3. At this point it just runs for a couple minutes and then shuts off even without something plugged in.

Can I freeze spray it or is that trick mainly for a psu?

                    Freeze spray should work.

I was testing caps for shorts and I found continuity in one. I pulled it thinking I would get lucky. Well out of circuit the cap had no continuity, so I tested the through-holes where the capacitor was soldered. I found continuity there, which means I have a short somewhere.

I think one of my L-367 chips is shorted if I could just find a darn pinout for it. There are two on the board and only 1/2 is acting as though it has a common for 3 of the pins. The other chip acts as though 2 pins are common.
