LG 37LC7D-AB again - Backlight problems

After my latest round of repairs to this set she worked well for a couple of weeks and then started exhibiting a new issue of no backlight. I still had sound and shining a torch at the screen showed the panel itself to be working. At first the backlight was intermittent - it wouldn't come on when the TV was switched on, but cycling mains power solved it. That worked a couple of times but then it wouldn't come on at all.

The backlight inverter is part of the PSU board:

The INV_ON signal seemed to be functioning, although at a measured ~1.2V is lower than I would expect, since the signal is coming from a 3.3V microcontroller.

I pulled the board and set it up on my bench. ON/OFF and 3.4V_ON were both tied to STBY_5V to power everything up. I connected INV_ON to 3.4V (since this signal usually comes from a 3.3V microcontroller). I hooked up a 15W CFL as described in BudM's Instructions and was surprised to find that the bulb lit up - although only for about a second before switching back off. It does this each time power is applied.

So the question is: is this turning the bulb back off likely to be due to the CFL bulb load being too small? Would this indicate that the inverter circuit is working? I had figured that the intermittent failure method of the backlight meant that the backlight itself was probably ok.

The lamp voltage is usually monitored by the control IC like in this example by C12 and C13 dividing the lamp voltage and applying it to the Vsen pin.

As CCFL lamps wear, the voltage increases. At some point the inverter might start shutting down.

Interesting. Although the transformer on this board has an extra winding that seems to provide some feedback to the controller IC, it does also feature these voltage divider caps. The controller IC is an MSC1691A but I can't find any datasheet.

I did notice the error output on the schematic you linked to, and it reminded me of the error pin on one of the connectors on my board here. I measured this pin: it started at 5V and when the bulb was switched off it went to 0V to indicate the error. This would almost certainly indicate that the test bulb I have connected is incorrect.

I'm pretty sure the backlight on the TV never even came on for 1 second (you can see the glow on the rear sides of the panel even if the LCD pixels are all off), so I suspect that the driver board may be fine and I actually have a connection issue...

Tentative update: it seems to be working again. I hate intermittent issues!

Since the CFL test was giving positive results I decided to rule out any problems with the MICOM signals and backlight itself and hooked the PSU board up to the backlight on the TV with all of the power supply enable link wires left in place. The backlight came on and stayed on.

OK, maybe the fault is with the MICOM->PSU connections? I pulled off my link wires and connected the board correctly and the TV was all working fine.

So I think the issue was/is a bad connection somewhere. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. I'll leave the back of the TV secured with just two screws for a while

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

Macbook A2289 - backlight problems - have checked a lot already - out of ideas
          by survivalbloke
This is A2289, board 820-01987-A. It came in with the screen not working. We could not see any image on the screen, so we ruled out a backlight issue and instead replaced the panel. The display now comes up, but no backlight.

I didn't see any signs of liquid damage, but there was some odd looking spots around U8400. F8400 has voltage on either side of it, and I have 5v present on R8444 and R8445. I did not have 3.2v at R8442 so I figured U8400 was bad, and I replaced it. After replacement, a brief probe to R8442 showed 3.2v so I assumed I had fixed the device. After reassembly however,...

Guide me through repairing a Dell p2210f LCD ccfl backlight monitor
          by DanPoka
I bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...

TOSHIBA DLP 52HM95 How to reset timer module on bulb
          by repair-it
I replaced the bulb only on my Toshiba DLP The bulb is a TB-25. This is the first time I've done a bulb only replacement. Supposedly there is a timer module that needs to be re-calibrated or reset. I don't know where the module is located. I see some vendors selling the bulb with the housing stating module included which leads me to think the module is located inside the enclosure the bulb mounts in, but I didn't see it. Maybe it's inside the plug attached to the bulb?

Anyway - I am seeking information on how to reset this so called module so that the lamp will operate. Apparently...

          No Backlight Macbook A1990 820-01041
          by Comp_Pro
          Hello all,

Am trying to figure out this backlight issue with this A1990 Macbook Pro.

          Tests performed:

There is no backlight even with a good screen.
Backlight IC is receiving the correct support voltages.
          Fuse F8400 ok
          Current sense resistor R8400 ok
Backlight IC is receiving 3.3V on enable pin.
Backlight IC receiving voltage from PPBUS_G3H, aprox 12.5V.
Backlight IC receiving 5V from PP5V_G3S
Backlight IC BKLT_SCL and BKLT_SDA both measure 0.545V diode mode to ground
          I2C_BKLT_SCL and I2C_BKLT_SDA both measure...
