vizio e420vl orange light, nothing else

hello, my Vizio e420vl gets stand by voltage and i tested PS-on and it reads 1.1v, I unhooked PS/on from the main board with all other wires connected and PS/on reads 3.3v on main board. when i gave PS/on 3,3v with a resistor from 5v, i can hear the PS start but same 1.1v. I checked all Vregs and all seem good, except the one by the LG chip(driver I assume) but it has no input. all fuses are okay. thanks in advance if anyone can help

You may have a cracked solder joint or a short between pins on the power supply or main board, check them carefully for contamination or cracks.

I had the same thing on the same tv model It was the eeprom on the main board. Search for a thread on it. I got a new one off shop jimmy for 20 bucks or so. From what i read this model is known for that. Might not be what you have but something to look into.

okay i will check the eeprom, its on the bottom of the main board ? right? I cant read the numbers because there is black marker writing on it. now is it an eeprom or a flash chip? I guess Ill have to get my buspirate out to sniff the spi lines.

alright I changed out the eeprom which is actually a flash chip and no luck. it seems like something is loading down the ps on line, when ps-on is disconnected from the header I get 3.3v on main board but as soon as I connect it to power board it drops to 1.1v

Where did you get the flash chip? It needs to be programmed with the correct Vizio firmware for your model.

Some component(s) is over loading your power supply, have you check to see if any IC chips are over heating on the main board? check the main processor and check the HDMI chip to see if they are getting hot.
