    Philips 42PF7320A Plasma

I have a chance to buy this set cheap. here's what the owner says,
"This TV was working until HORIZONTAL LINES started appearing. A short while later, the screen went black with bits of static. Selling AS-IS".

What's the consensus on a problem like this? can it be the plasma panel or a possible fix if it's a resetting of a connector, circuit board problem, or possibly a PS problem? I haven't messed with a plasma before. point me in the right direction.

    Thanks guys,

    frank

    Top to bottom?
    Left to right?

Top to bottom: Bad plasma panel
    Left to right: Buffer board

owner said horizontal, then black screen. you think it's worth a shot if it's not vertical lines? I sent the owner an email requesting a little more specifics about the set and what actually happened. do you think it's a set worth repairing?

      thanks,

        more info from the owner:

The lcd panel is perfect. Power is perfect, no red lights, all green. Sound works. The TV was working fine, then the top half went dark and the bottom had horizontal line spaces in white/gray. After a few restarts, that went as well. The TV is black but it flickers in multiple spots of the screen a colored static randomly. I red about the y-sus boards going bad on this model. Lots of successful fix-it stories if you google it. I just don't have the time to order parts and fiddle with it.

what do you guys think? run out and buy it?

        many thanks to all,

        frank

It could be a buffer board plus Y-main failure.

            Tom66,

Is that a green light to buy it? looks like boards may be available on ebay and perhaps other sources. never had a plasma but would like to try one. I'd like to pull the trigger on this one before someone jumps on it.

Thanks so much for you comments,

It is a difficult, but far from impossible problem to fix. It depends entirely on your skill level.

skill level is pretty good, can solder and use a meter. fixed a lcd monitor and a lcd TV with PS problems. I may just get this one for the experience.

                thanks Tom66
