LG 42PC3D-UD dead no-lead solder arrggg!

this 42" has a hybrid i.c. on the y-sustain board that i'm trying to desolder. unfortunately LG used no-lead solder on it. this stuff seems nearly impossible to remove.

does anybody have any tips for dealing with this stuff?

i got a tip on another site where you pre-treat solder wick with solder paste, which helped, but only somewhat.

i've got a 35 watt iron, solder wick, paste and a solder sucker to use.

You will need an iron closer to 60W and with temperature regulation. These things are nasty to get off!

I've been through this frustration, and I only use a desoldering gun now. You can try adding a little solder to each pin so that the solder flows better when you try to suck it up. The heat sinks on the IPMs absorb a lot of the soldering iron's heat, so a higher wattage iron would be best. Also, a hair dryer or a heat gun on a low setting would be helpful.

I have found that if you first with a pair of pliers snap off the ends of the set screws, then drill them out to remove the heatsink, you can cut the leg's off the IPM and desolder them one by one no need for lots of heat. when you fit the new IPM use nut's and bolts

just read my post again i did not mean fit IPM with nuts and bolts just the heatsink ?It's just a way to get the heatsink off leaving just the IPM on the board and making a hard job easy without doing damage

Put the screws in from the top instead of the bottom to make it easier?
