My TV was given to me by my brother because it went out and he didn't want to mess with it. The TV would turn on, screen was black and it would not turn off by the power button. I found the readings on U33 were off so I replaced it. Now the screen is blue with lines but I can also turn it on and off using the power button. Any suggestions on what will help with the screen now?

Re: Vizio VW42LHDTV10A screen blue with lines
Sorry, I am somewhat a newb posting on forums, here are pictures of when the TV is first turned on and then after sitting a minute, with a black shadow like area at the lower left hand corner. Could it still be the Tcon board or the panel? Thanks for your reply Pentium4.Last edited by BryB; 06-02-2013, 04:08 PM.

The video linked goes through that procedure, and no, changing the panel is very unlikely to be economical. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Vizio VW42LHDTV10A screen blue with lines
I may be grasping at straws here but I just took the cover off of the Tcon board to check the ribbon cables and realized that there are no screws holding the board in the tv. My brother must have had it opened at some point, or someone has and didn't put the screws back. Around the board is copper, are the screw points grounds for the board?

Re: Vizio VW42LHDTV10A screen blue with lines
You need to ask him if the problem was the same before and try to get the old T-con off him. Failing that get us the LCD panel sticker (e.g. AU OPTRONICS TC4150W9XXX) and we can potentially find a guaranteed compatible replacement; my opinion is though that it is the panel and an incorrect T-con would not cause that. Please do not PM me with questions! He said the screen went black and it had colored vertical lines back in January. He is sending me the original T-con board. I will update again after I get the board and troubleshoot further. I'm just trying to keep from buying a panel or throwing the TV away if I can help it.

UPDATE!! :-D
Got the T-Con board from my brother in the mail today, installed (screw holes lined up perfectly (even sent the screws LOL)) And here are the results! Turns out it WAS the wrong T-Con board and U33 was bad after all.
Thank you everyone for all your help, I appreciate it!!

Nice one! And I am surprised a wrong T-con could cause that, I would have expected no picture at all. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!
