My TH-50PZ80U had a similar issue a few years ago. It took me a month of off-and-on testing to drill down to the cause, which coincidentally is shown in this video that includes the repair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjpGKaBt8hg

When I did this repair, I did not replace the TEA1611 chip. I just replaced the capacitor. My TV has been working flawlessly for about 2 years. I can't guarantee that this will resolve your issue, but it's likely.

2 blink and 10 blink are caused by one of the ceramic caps on those boards failing -- but replace both for reliability. SMD electrolytics work good.

Can anyone suggest caps or point me in the right direction? I'm open to fixing the issue but like I said I have 0 experience in electronics/TV repair. A link to a thread or a link to what I need to get would be much appreciated.

Norcal's video, linked above, will guide you through the repair. Watch it all the way through as he talks about all parts of the repair. It is not necessary to replace the TEA chip in the vast majority of cases, so replace the cap only for now.

Yeah, I linked to the same video that Tom did in an earlier post. I'm not sure what else to tell you. If you have zero experience, you might have to seek out someone to do the repair for you. The repair isn't too terribly difficult, but you could damage the small module if you're not careful; those modules are hard to find, and they're pricey if you do find one. Do you have any friends with electronics experience that like beer? :-) Maybe a local repair shop can do it cheaply, since we've already pointed you in the suspected right direction.

Anyone have a recommendation as far as what solderer to use? Also, just so I'm clear, I need two TEA1611 chips and 2 ceramic capacitors to make this repair?

What is the exact capacitor for this repair and where can I find it? Any help would be much appreciated, I've been TV-less for like 5 months now and I really want to play GTA V

If you've never used a soldering iron, and you're at all hesitant, I'd find someone to do it for you. Again, if you damage one of the MC modules, it's most likely game over and you'll have to buy a replacement PSU.

I used ceramics once, then I switched to electrolytic caps on the next two Panasonics I worked. The caps are 1uF/50V.

Did you watch the video to familiarize yourself with the process?

(1) I use a cheap Xytronic temp-controlled soldering iron with a chisel tip; a Radio Shack iron might be fine for this job
(2) 60/40 rosin-core solder
(3) Flux pen
(4) Solder sucker or some other solder removal tool to remove the MC modules from the board.

Yes, I watched all the video. I did the air can/refrigerant diagnostic, the TV powered up after I used the refrigerant on the TEA1611 chip that is more toward the left side of the PSU. It was giving the 2 blink/10 blink error code beforehand. I used the refrigerant on one chip, attempted power up, and waited 15 minutes and did the other one. The TV only turned on after I used the refrigerant on the chip located more toward the left.

I have never soldered before but I feel like this is a good learning experience and I'd prefer to attempt it myself. Any tips would really be appreciated, I feel like I've watched that guy solder 10 times and he makes it look so effortless.

Ok, cool. I'd change out both chips and both caps to prevent having to open the TV later. The chips and caps are cheap. Like I mentioned earlier, though, I only replaced the cap on the MC301 module, and my TV's been working fine for over two years.

(1) Through-hole solder removal: First, you'll need to remove the MC modules from the board. I'd remove and work on one at a time to avoid confusing them. This is where the solder sucking device or wick comes into play:

(2) You're going to be doing strictly surface mount soldering on the MC modules. I used my hot air station to remove the chip, but the method Norcal715 used works great, too. You'll need to make sure the TEA1611T chip is aligned correctly and avoid bridging the pins with solder when you install it. Also, flux is a must: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NN7UGWYmBY. Installing the cap can be a bit tricky - just avoid heating the small cap pads on the module too much, and try to avoid touching components that are close by with the iron.

(3) Installing the module on the PSU after completing the chip and cap replacement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oyJYZRRU8c. I had to put something under the module when I had the board turned over to prop it up so that it wouldn't fall as I was soldering at least the first pin.

Thanks for all your help guys, I completed the repair and my TV is up and running. Fans sound a bit odd though, like a bit of a muffly whining sound, very quiet, any thoughts?

TVs been off for so long I don't know if that's normal or not, other than that it's working as intended. Thanks again.

Do you smoke cigarettes (around the TV?) I had the same problem until I found that the cigarette gunk had built up in the fans. Cleaned that out and they ran smooth. Now I know why I don't smoke. Awful stuff.

Does anyone know the if there are polarity issues when replacing the ceramic SMD caps with electrolytics? Since ceramic are not polarized and 'lytics are... I am sure that it matters which direction you install them. I have never been able to verify this and I really need to replace mine before the TV craps out.
